Subject: [SR3] Guess what, another decker question from me

Hi, I hope that you are not getting bored with me and my constant
questions about decks and deckers and decking.

Anyway, for those of you that has been following my questions I'm going
thru the rules about upgrading a deck and on page 20 in Matrix it says
that running a Reality filter consumes an enormous amount of processing
power to the effective MPCP is reduced by one. Does that mean that must
have a separate batch of ASISTS/RAS/persona programs chip for using a
reality filter? Since all of them(and some more) is based on your MPCP
rating. Lets say that I have MPCP 8 with response increase two, and I
starts up my reality filter and I get a MPCP 7 deck, that cant process
response increase two, what will happen, will the whole deck blow up?

/Peter

It's not really clear, but I always interpreted that as meaning your MPCP
limited hardware/software also "bogs down" so, you have effectively reduce
them to lower ratings so as not to exceed the limitation imposed by the
new MPCP but you don't actually have to run different software.

No, it will only operate at the maximum response increase available to an
MPCP with rating 7... so be the equivalent of response increase one.

Ok, thats makes sense, but I have a follow up question, matrix page 42
says that when a sculpted system and reality filer meet the decker rolls
MPCP against the systems security value, if the test fails the character
suffers -2 reaction and -1d6 initiative.

Is that -2 reaction and -1d6 initiative from the reality filter or
totaly -4 reaction and -2d6 initative.

I read it as losing all the benefits of the reality filter (which
includes -2 react and -1d6 init). I would like to know how others have
interpreted this section though.

I thought that there should be something that could go wrong when using
reality filters on a sculpted system, I mean, you dont even raise the
security telly and you might as well turn of the reality filter and
regain your lost MPCP.
