The example and the chart for the costs for this power in SR3 seem to
conflict ... Is the ability cost per skill or per similar skill? In
other words to you buy Improved Ability (Edged Weapons), Improved Ability
(Clubs), and Improved Ability (Pole Arms), or do you buy Improved Ability
(Edged weapons, Clubs, and Pole Arms)?

The example concurs with the first possibility while the table's
orginization implies the second interpretation ...

I believe that the both are right in a certain way. The rule that you
can only apply the bonus to a specific skill is correct. The chart lists
all the skill grouped together, three per line for several line. In the
old version of this, the different skills had different power point
costs. This meant that each of the listed skill improvements cost that
lines value of power points. So to get 1 extra dice for Edged Weapons,
Clubs, Polearms would cost 1.5 power points. .5 power points for each
individual skill improvement.

The new list in SR3 may be in error. The old system had a heavy cost for
gunnery and firearms. Now it is just as easy a clubs and knives.
MitS or an errata sheet may answer this.

The cost is >> Per Skill <<. To use your example, yes, you would buy
Improved Ability (Edged weapons), and Improved Ability (Clubs), and
Improved Ability (Unarmed Combat), all at .5 each per point.

The table is slightly goofy, and gives the impression that you buy groups
of skills, which is wrong (although I think the last line--Whips, Gunnery,
and Launch weapons, makes that clear!). We had a problem with space, and I
think a long list of skills was a bit too much, so it was condensed.

You mean THEY'RE NOT RELATED?!?!?!? Ahh, shit, now I gotta change all
those characters...
