I was rereading SR3 yesterday, and I came across something funky.

In the Magic section, where it discusses Physical Adepts, it says that they
can not exceed their Magic attr in points of powers (ie: Magic attr: 6, 6
points of physad powers), and that they can not exceed their Magic attr in
rating of powers (ie: Magic attr: 2, Max Increased Reflex: 2). Immediately
after that, they say that you can buy additional power points for 20 Good
Karma. Now, let's say I made a PhysAd. I have a Magic of 6, so during
chargen, I buy 6 points of physad powers. During the game, I manage to get
20 karma and buy a new power point. Now, the way that it is written, it
seems that I can't actually *buy* another point worth of powers, because
then, it would make the total points of powers greater than my Magic rating.

Is this true? Or did I misread something? :)

AFAIK it is supposed to mean that the adept can buy new power points, but
has to assign it to one of his Magic points. If he loses a poit of magic
this means he may loos two power points worth of abilities. And he can´t
exceed his magic attribute in the level of the ability.

Example

Fred the Physad has Magic 6 and six points worth of powers

1 Increase Reflexes (1)
2 Increase Reflexes (1)
3 Stealth (4)
4 Unarmed (6)
5 Unarmed (6)
6 Unarmed (6)

He went out and did a few runs and got himself a teacher and some Karma
and learns to walk without disturbing the ground (Stealth +2, Traceless
Walk), now his allocation could look like this:

1 Increase Reflexes (1), Traceless Walk, Stealth (6)
2 Increase Reflexes (1)
3 Stealth (6)
4 Unarmed (6)
5 Unarmed (6)
6 Unarmed (6),

After a while all his Magic ´slots´ will be filled by two or more powers,
so that any deadly wound could mean the loss of multiple powers.

Hope I could help

Hi,

I always thought Magic Rating limits physad maximum level of his Powers. That
way as long as I have suficient amount of PowerPoints and have Magic, lets
say, of 5, I can have as much Powers as I want to, but at a max. level of 5.

Hope this helps.

The way I understand it, you can only have 6 power points when you create your charater.

Unless you use the optional canon rule that players
can spend Build Points to Grade durring generation.

The way we interpret that is that the adept can buy extra power points up to
their magic rating; so, an adept can have up to 12 points worth of powers
without initiating.

note: since they start with no force points, you'd still have to buy
force points at 25K per point though at char-gen.

This came up with the Virtual Magic Rating of bioware. It seems that the
intention was that you can only use Power Points up to your magic at any
given time. So, if you have a magic of 8, and 10 power points, you'd have
to choose which 8 to use at any given time.
