In SR3, Yes (although the target is not a vehicle, so the damge level is
unaffected). Yes to question 2. Yes, it can be ugly...

Yes, they would, since you normally attack spirits using normal combat
skills in SR3. If you opted to engage in a "contest of wills" (probably
because its your only chance), I think none of those items would help- you'd
be rolling willpower in melee combat. Weapon reach would still help, a good
enough reason to keep a big long chunky melee weapon (like a troll...)
around, and an even better reason to have magic backup.
