Do we know how drastically Deckers/Riggers are going to change yet? Are
riggers going to become more like deckers, deckers more like riggers, or
somewhere inbetween? I ask because my gaming group is restructuring and
we're deeply considering moving our game to running in the carribbean league
and many of the players are wanting to play riggers. We're wondering if the
change is going to be significant enough that it'd not be worth taking the
time to try to write up the characters and such now and then just wait and
get the SR4 books when they come and learn the new rules and handling of
them.

My suggestion would be to play a couple of one-off adventures or
something with either your current characters or ones made for the
occasion, and start your Caribbean League campaign when you have a copy
of SR4. That gets around the problem of possibly having to change lots
of major things about the characters in order to make them fit the new
rules.

Well, I can tell you this. The rigger is the one archetype that
takes the longest character generation time (yet, they're quite fun
to play IMO). Resource allocation is pure hell, and involves a
tremendous amount of vehicle design/customization.
Also, Shadowrun 4, being a complete rewrite of the rules (as in,
old WoD vs. new WoD rather than SR2 vs. SR3), will be completely
incompatible with SR3. Somebody will probably write some conversion
rules, but if you ask me it's easier to just re-create the character.
Same goes, of course, for vehicles (except that I doubt there'll ever
be conversion rules for those).
So my point is, either wait for SR4 to come out, or stick to SR3
for this campaign.

Not completely, but you will have to adjust plenty of things. A street
sam with wired-2 will still be a street sam with wired-2, although the
game rules may change; for riggers etc. IMHO you'd be better off
starting from scratch instead of trying to convert an old character, though.
