Ok, a few years ago (like 2 or 3) I heard of some
bishop or minister down south (Texas or something) of
I think a Catholic religion that pubicly said that if
any of their parishoners were in any way Masonically
Affiliated, that they would be excommunicated unless
they relinquished thier membership immediately. I
thought that the church had gotten over it's
prejudices, but it hadn't.

My cousin belongs to a church that acutually forbids
her to have any contact with non christians. Too bad,
I guess she won't be able to talk to the other 1/2 of
the bridal party then...

This does not make me think that Churches would be
very forgiving of new/older religions poping up and
stealing away parishoners. In fact there may be
extremeists Religions branching from what we see as
the "Normal" religions today, that would see not only
new/old religions as work of the devil, but anyone
goblinized or of metahuman race in general. What
better way to start a Policlub than to have "GOD(s)"
on their side.

Why not a new Inquisition, smiting the "fowled"
metahumans in the name of "GOD(s)"?

"You're my friend Sam, but since you goblinized into
an ork, my religion says I have to kill you, nice
knowing you." *BLAMO*

How about the flip side: Followers of the old
religions going ballistic on Christians for
destroying thei (religious) ancestors way back
when.

Actually, I can see that. In the novel
Ragnarok, there was something like that (don't
worry, I didn't spoil it, it happens fairly
early...as if you couldn't guess from the title).

Hmmmmm...interesting avenues that can be explored.

What an interesting idea. For once in (future)history
not let the christians be the spankers, but the
spankees. Hmmmmm. I'm going to have to read that book
now too. I think Chris has that one...going to have to
dig through milk crates again *sigh*

"You start out all as faithful followers of a off
kilter sept of... um,... hrumpf,... Dionysus... Yeah,
he was cool. And while you're all drunk and passed out
on the floor you all get the same vision... Dionysus
tells you that you must smite the christians... yeah."
(later on) "You enter the Ares building and as you
begin hunt for the christian you missed...a man
walking down the hallway seems very firmilliar to
you... you don't know why, but you feel like you
should be drinking something to be able to see him."
<begin conspiracy theory>Yes, somehow everything goes
back to Ares...</end conspiracy theory>

There were an awful lot of well fed lions in Italy a few thousand years ago
who may disagree with the "For once in history" line :?)

Yeah! Just think of all the hungry lions that need to
be fed! I mean, no, I see you're right, this is bad.

Um...Christians have had a long history of being Persecuted. There's that
whole thing with Rome and the Lions. The systematic mistreatment of
Christians in China <Not that that's anything special..the Chicoms mistreat
everybody, but really step on folks of any sort of religious persuasion.>
There's the mistreatment of Christians BY Christians, as in the Albigensian
and Waldensian crusades. On the whole, Christians have been stomped on as
much as they've stomped.

Speaking of religion in Shadowrun, has anything ever been mentioned about
India? At all? Considering that metahumans tend to express along the lines
of local folklore, I can see several ways that the treatment of the
awakened there could turn, as well as possible variant metatypes. Four
armed, blue skinned orcs, maybe?

Oh, I wish I could respond to that, but I don't
want to get spanked by the powers that be again.

I don't remember any mythology that said
Dionysus hated Ares. *grin*

Although, that would be ironic: Ares gets
the beatdown from faiths dedicated to
their namesake's diefic enemies.

Hell no. Only the gods (and people left under water for more than a week)
are blue, it is a mark of divinity (or waterlogged tissue). No multiple arms
either. Although, orkish tusks feature largely in their art.
There was something, somewhere that I'm sure I read about metahumans
automatically becoming untouchables. Elves, trolls, no matter, they are all
untouchables. Now what would Tir NanOg have to say about that? Especially
since the ways and paths resemble Hindu (etc.) beliefs in some ways, except
that for Indians, elves are at the bottom of the reincarnation ladder.
If you wanted to complicate things, what if they powers that be decided that
UGE was the mark of station stamped on one's genetic structure, and the
entire family of a goblin child was considered to be masquerading as a
higher caste, and immediately stripped of station or even punished? Child
deaths would increase dramatically, I'd say.
