My Favorite Shadowrun-style movie is still the original Die Hard, even
though the runner team are the bad guys in it. It's the film that I
use to introduce new players to the concept of what a team of
shadowrunners does, and how they operate, even if the team in Die Hard
do seem to be freelancers.

This is kind from left field. The movie "Wild Bunch" has some shadowrun
like plot elements in it. Yeah Yeah I know it was a western but it was
still a great flick.

"Let's Go."

"Why Not?"

I find for introducing new players to the setting, "Bladerunner" is a great
way of helping them envision what 205x - 6x Seattle is like. As a matter
of fact, I've drawn a few Bladerunner fans into the game because of their
appreciation of the similarities.

For plot stuff, I like "Heat" and "The Usual Suspects"

As far as movies that would fit the Shadowrun-esque category; I know it didn't have much
of a plot, but the fight scenes in "The Big Hit" were phenomenol. (John Woo..
what'd you
expect?)

Then again, not all John Woo films were plotless. Face Off and Broken Arrow were both
very good movies, in my opinion.

The Warriors. I am old enough to remember when it first came out. You wouldn't
believe the fuss made about this movie at the time. Gangbangers of the day
were going to the movie, this is back in the day of drive-ins, and fighting.
The authorities
were talking about banning it. People were going to see it multiple times just
to see what was going to happen away from the screen.

It didn't help that the movie posters said something like "They're
twenty-thousand strong. The police can't stop them. They could rule New
York City. They are the children of the night." , to more or less
paraphrase the caption.

Ya know, for some reason, I had never really considered, the Warriors. But,
now that you mention it, it is a decent glimpse as to what gang life *might*
be like as far as a fictional role playing game needs to know.

Also, now that I think about it, not a bad premise for a
run....

Um, other than being one of the executive producers for it, John Woo had
little to nothing to do with that awful piece of film. He didn't do any
directing or writing for it. That can all be placed at the feet of Kirk
Wong and Ben Ramsey.

Most of Woo's films are thick with plot, like you said. "Face Off" and
"Broken Arrow" aren't the best examples. "Bullet in the Head" and
"Better
Tomorrow" spring to mind, however. (Both are films with tons of character
and plot ideas).
