I'm going to (finally!) get my own copy of the Shadowrun book in
about two weeks, when I get my next paycheck. At places here in the
Washington, D.C., USA area, I've found that the hardback is $30.00 and the
softcover is $25.00 -- I'd rather get the softcover anyway.
Does anybody know of a mail-order place that might have it
cheaper? Does anybody have two copies (SRII only) and want to sell one?
Just thought I'd ask...

Good luck. I looked in a number of places for the softcover and
couldn't find it. In fact, the only place I could find the hardcover
was Dream Wizards in Rockville. They had one copy of the hardcover
and said they were sold out of the softcover but that they'd probably
be getting more in a week or so.

A week later they had no softcover and six new hardcovers. I figure
the book is selling well enough that it's worth their while to keep
only the hardcover in stock.

I went ahead and bought the hardcover.

Get the Hardcover - the extra five is worth it for the increased life span.
Also - try kage I believe that they have reduced prices and WarGamers West
might also have hardcovers left.

I'm kinda attached to my copy. however if you call a place caller the
depot [i can't remember the name of the town it is in but it is right
next to laurel, md/ they have stuff a a good price and often have used
stuff in GOOD condition at an EXCELLENT price] five minutes with an
operator should give you the number or even the yellow pages - if you are
a member of wmega [i think that is tha achronym] they give a discount
on new stuff

you can most times find a copy of the soft cover in waldens or b. dalton
course we're talking full price - unless you want it for collectability
don't buy the hard back - it has some mistakes that are corrected in the
softcover [of course there are some mistakes there too, but oh well...]

Not always; only if the binding is sewn and a good quality glue is used. If
treated well, a softback will last as long as a hardcover. A perfect
example of how /not/ to bind a book is the hardcover Champions 4th edition
rulebook (mine fell apart within 6 months); a perfect example of how to
bind a book is any of Palladium's books (the system sucks, but they have
the best bindings in the business).

Games Workshop has some of the worst bindings in the world. My copy of War-
hammer Siege fell apart in three weeks. Interestingly enough, one of the soft
cover books I bought from them is still in damn good shape. <Hmmm..>
I'd buy the softcover, myself. Is the Second edition really that much of an
improvement, or would I be better off just adapting my house rules with things
that I like from here??

What kind of mistakes are in the hardcover? I'll probably buy the
softcover anyway, but we haven't noticed many actual _mistakes_, and I'd
been hoping the page numbers would stay the same...

I do not own the hardcover, but upon recieving a copy of the official errata
for the 2nd edition I noticed a substantially greater number of errors marked
for the hardcover edition of SRII.

I have what I though was the official SRII errata, and I don't see
anything special about hardcover vs. softcover. Would someone let me
know if they can email it to me, and I'll ask them to (to avoid
multiple sendings)?

Thanks.

among other things the shotgun rules were either left out or in extreme
error - unfortunately i do not have a detailed knowledge of the exect
errors but i do know the color plates have a bunch-o-stuff that needs to
be looked at closely [they are the same in both releases as they are too
expensive to correct] however as always i can point you in the correct
direction to find out the answer---drop bitrunner a line he has been
messed up by the mistakes more than once [my old gm] he has both copies
and can get into more detail than i can drop him a line at :
rcoster@******.infonet.net
i hope htis helps more than i could

According to my copy of the errata, which I obtained through the net, there
are over 20 notes marked HC, or Hardcover only.

I will mail the file to you sometime over break.
