From what I have seen in the Beta version of SRII, from GEnie, the spells
will not be directly convertable, but with a bit of work by a good GM, the
conversion should be a snap.
One of the most stiking differences is that the target number to resist
Drain is often a modified Force rating.
Hoping not to infringe on any Copyrights, but as an example, the
Hellblast spell now has a drain code of (F+3)D. Makes it a nasty spell to
cast at high Forces, eh?
Drain may be staged down, as with all staging now, for every two
successes generated, the drain code drops by one category.
Also, base damage is no longer set at L, which was rather odd, because a
Power Bolt cast at a high enough Force could do as much damage, and be less
harmful to the casting mage, as a Hellblast cast at the same Force. Now, there
is a different base damage for all combat spells, as the aforementioned
Hellblast spell now has a base damage level of D. Nasty, eh?
Is the added drain worth the extra damage - I think so, but another thing
I like about the change is that it puts a bit more danger into the magical
arts. Makes the players sweat a bit more.
Until next time,
Chris
