Subject: SRII questions...
Date: Wed, 23 Sep 92 13:56:55 GMT
I figured that I'd throw these questions out to the net... (anyone on GEnie
feel free to repost this there, so that we could maybe get some "official"
answers)...
1) On pg 46 (Allergies), it says "The character can only receive the bonus
from one of the associated categories, from either allergy or the severity,
but can choose different categories for each." Someone feel like explaining
this (rather) ambiguous passage for me?
2) On pg 102 (Superior position): Would a characters height difference of .5m
or more be considered "superior position" (ie. anyone vs a dwarf or a troll
vs any non-troll)?
3) On pg 121 (Owl shaman): It looks like one of the modifiers under disads is
wrong; it says "+2 to all TN when in direct sunlight" and "+2 to all TN
for magic during the daytime (even if under cover)". Okay, looking at
this now I think I understand it... An Owl shaman trying to use magic
in direct sunlight has +4 to TN, but if not using magic only has +2...
4) Does learning a new spell require a Magic Theory library (as stated on
pg 124) or a sorcery library (as stated on pg 132)???
5) Is it possible to have an "exclusive" "fetish-requiring" spell? I
don't
see any reason why not...
6) Can a sorcerous adept be attacked from astral space other than through a
focus??? He can't perceive or project, but does have magic, so I wasn't
sure based on the wording... I would say no (otherwise, NOONE in their
right mind would ever become one)...
7) If astrally perceiving (not projecting), a magician can attack things on
the astral; correct? It definitely sounds like it from the note under the
physical adept description, but...
8) On a "restricted" (ie. exclusive or requires fetish), is the force number
for calculating drain the "base" force number (before the bonus for the
restrictes) or is it the modified force?
9) Is it possible to strike something in the astral with a weapon focus
WITHOUT perceiving or projecting (ex. sorcerous adept with a weapon focus)?
It doesn't say you can't, but it doesn't say you can... My rational for
this is that if you know someone is nearby astrally (like they just blasted
one of your spell locks), then it would seem like you could attack "blind";
after all, the weapon focus has an astral presence... I figured use the
"firing blind" modifier (+8)... Anyone else agree, disagree, or see a
rule I missed???
9a) [sort of related] Later on (I don't remember exactly where), it mentions
a penalty for attacking an invisible target, but never tells you what it
is and it's not one of the modifiers on the tables; so what would this be?
another use of the "blind" modifier (+8)? or something else?
10) Where is the "Corporate Decker Archetype" referred to in the Opposition
section (pg 168)?
11) How does hardening work? Like physical armor (subtract from Power)?
or like the shield program (automatically stopping its rating number of
wounds)? Does hardening apply to all attacks in the Matrix or just to
IC attacks on the deck?
12) Why would anyone use anything other than a pure cybernetic interface into
the Matrix? You get the extra initiative die and no apparent drawbacks?
13) [not really a question] Anyone else notice that most of the errors in
the book occur in the examples making it kinda hard to try figuring out
some rules if you don't get them the first time around???
14) Anyone know the expected release date of the Grimoire II???

Thanks in advance...

In response...the Shadowrun Guru Adept Aprentice comes to the rescue
(maybe)
Hmmmmm......

Thoughts . . . Cost:1 Availability:8/10 days Street Index: .02

1) The bonus due to the Allergies can only be taken from one of the columns
(Skills,Attributes,Force, or NuYen) but you receive the bonus from both
the Allergy taken and it's severity. What I'd like to know is : Can more
than one Allergy be taken?
2) The troll recieves his "superior position" through his +1 to reach... the
only way to make the difference for the dwarf would be to give him a -1
to reach (this would really underpower dwarves).
3) The Owl Shaman receives a +2 to all magic related target numbers any time
during the day (even when not in sunlight) that is cumulative with the
+2 modifier the Owl Shaman gets to all target numbers when he _is_ in
direct sunlight. (Total of +4 to magic related TN's in direct sunlight)
4) A Magical Theory Library with a rating at least as high as the force of the
spel you are learning is required to learn a new spell.
5) Yes, you may have both the "exlusive" and "fetish" restrictions on
the same
spell.
6) You are correct...The Hermetic sorceror adept cannot astrally perceive or
project, so therefore can only be attacked through a bonded focus from
astral space. (Physical, area-effect spell)
7) Yes, any astrally projecting OR perceiving creature can attack (or be
attacked) by any other astral entity.
8) The target number for drain on spells with the "exlusive" or
"fetish"
restriction is based on the base force before the bonus to the restrictions.
9) Veeeeery interesting *grin*
9a) For hitting invisible "stuff", I have always added the number of successes
the mage got from his success test to the target number if the invisible
person/critter/thing/etc. was noticed. If not, BLIND FIRE. *grin*
10) No more Corporate deckers?!? Wow! Running the Matrix is going to be soooo
much more fun!
11) As stated by Fastjack, ">>>>>[Hardening is like having a
permanently
active shield program. No combat deck should be without
it.]<<<<<"
(Shadowtech 56)
12) Going "naked" into the matrix is quite different from using a cyberdeck.
Your MPCP is equal to Willpower. All your programs must be written on
the fly. Any damage that would normally damage your matrix persona now
damages you personally. You require a program carrier. Your I/O speed is
equal to your intelligence. You must download to internal memory or with
slight modification (up to your GM) to a chip in a chipjack. Your Bod is
also equal to your willpower.
However, (good
stuff) you get an extra +D6 to your initiative, you can enter through
slave ports (decks can't), Your wired reflexes or rigger gear act as
response increase, you do get normal programs for Sensors, Masking, and
Evasion (remember, max rating = 75% MPCP round down).
-Accomplished Matrix Streaker (or my inflated matrix ego would like to
think so)
13) I actually thought that there were very few errors in this edition.
14) "Supposedly" Grimoire comes out the end of this year.(give or take a
decade.)

ooops... I didn't get this mailed out before the other responses came.
Enjoy them anyway.
