I see what you mean. I wasn't thinking of it that way at the time, but
you're right.

Personally, my all-time favorite for Shadowrunnish movies is _The Usual
Suspects_. This movie's got EVERYTHING.. The runners with fake SINs, the
double-crossing Johnson, the Lofwyr-like scheming, Lone Star on their
tails.. Even the failed "friend-of-a-friend" roll from the SR Companion.

Not to mention it's a damn good movie. I've watched it four times and I
still catch things I've missed. After that, _Heat_ and _The Game_ both
have SR elements I like.

Predator II was pretty close also. You've got a typical shadowrun group,
two warring gangs, the implication that one of them is based in magic, and
then there's the predator running around. It's set in a cyberpunkish
future too. I personally rate it higher than the original movie.

Never really thought of it in terms of SR but it does
fit. I just thought it was a kick ass movie. I also agree that it is
better than the first one.

Anybody ever seen "Strange Days"? I'd give that one the Shadow-movie
award. SimSense and everyting but magic/cyberware (its set 1999 magic
didn't return that early :). A little intense (few movies will make me
sweat for the main characters like that one did).

Oh definitely. Awesome movie. A sleeper though. Not much
play in theaters. Certainly worth the rental. Wasn't this based on a
story by Gibson? If not they sure pulled off his style well.
Speaking of Gibson, "Johnny Mnemonic", while not a
terribly good movie, was VERY Shadowrun. You even get a look at a
fingertip compartment monowhip. But then this has been discussed before.

Incidentally my last read of Neuromancer was the first
time since I saw JM. I never noticed that he was Molly's main squeeze
before Neuromancer is set. Kinda neat. (Please don't bash me for not
having noticed this or for not having read JM before the movie. Just
deal. :)

I loved the "Rigger Chick" in that movie, and thought she would make a great
Shadowrun character. But over all it was not very good.

Actually I think she was called Sally in the movie. In the original story
in "Burning Chrome" it was Molly, the character from "Neuromancer".
"Burning Chrome" was published after "Neuromancer". In my opinion the
story
was way better than the movie.

In the movie the equivalent character was actually called 'Jane'. And she
was actually nothing like Molly - far less competent, and much more of a
newbie. Molly was scarily good; Jane was just competent, and much less
experienced.

IMHO.

Hmm. I liked Strange Days a lot. On the other hand, I actually
managed to somewhat enjoy The Avengers <shrug> :)

The anthology was published after _Neuromancer_, yes, but the story
"Johnny Mnemonic" itself (and hence the character Molly) came before.

Personally, I really liked the movie. It was fun, and had some neat
special effects scenes. Saw it twice in the theaters; my friends didn't
like it as much, but I think they had higher expectations than I did to
start with. >8->

I agree. That particular Arquette gets on my nerves, and is particularly
unattractive in this one.

But! This does remind me of a cyber/horror movie that has some SR thematic
elements in it. "Circuitry Man" (it had a sequel too, but I haven't seen
it). The main character (Plughead?) could jack into vehicles and run them.
I'm kinda curious where they got the idea for that concept....

<Best Shadowrun Movie with a wide viewing in the American audience? AKIRA
by far. Remember the Rigged bike with they guy rideing sitting cross
legged with arms folded. And it has that certin flair of the supernatural
though not as much as SR.

Don't bother with the sequal...it was bad. That synthetic human could
plug into vehicles too...he did it on the rice rocket towards the end of
the movie.
