Any one know how many new people have come on the list in the
last couple of months? I believe there are quite a few around here.
One thing that ticks me off are the idiots that play role-playing
games and take them as serious as real life. Like the people who die
playing D&D for example. What brain capacity does it take to decide
between real life and a fake character? I don't mean anyone on the list
because most of the people on the list are a lot smarter than this. The
people i do mean are are the ones who compare eerything to game terms and
what if you had this in real life and what if this happened in Sr and
what if this character out of a book came to life and a lot of other
things...
I hadto say this seeing the kids playing games in the Gamers Club
at my school. I mean were talking kids who have no life playing Magic or
D&D till their brain oozes out their ass in a state of atrophy. I saw a
kid today with a cardboard box filled with nothing ut about half a foot
of magic cards. What a waste of money. To him its a liffe, to people
like me it is only a game and a game it will stay.
Sorry if I offended anybody.....

Didn't you know that Magic TOG is nothing but crack for gamers???
Everyone I know that has gotten into it, has boxes and boxes of the
silly things. It is a highly addictive thing can will drain your wallet
and kill off brain cells. It is evil and should be stopped.

No offense taken on this side. I can testify to what you are saying. It
does go a little to far. But in defense, sometimes I like to imagine
what it would be like to do what we do in games. It is fun. It can go to
far though. I knew someone who almost blew his brains out because
he lost his favorite _&_ character. Sad really.

I think you are being harsh here. Magic:TG is not crack, rather it is a
religion. Please come join us. I don't smoke pot, I do hug Scryb
sprites :-)

Hi. Just joined up yesterday. I'm 26 now, and have been
roleplaying since the original D&D came out (yes, my parents worry,
which is why I keep the GPA up there). I agree with your description
of many gamers. Granted, a character should be roleplayed to the
hilt--if not, what are you playing for? But the death of a character is
not the absolute end of the world. Although it is annoying when a
maniacal GM kills that guy you spent 2 hours creating <no, this never
happens to me>.
Keep in mind, Shadowrun is a form of entertainment. Like all
entertainment, it is a form of escape from reality. Let's keep in mind
this simple fact. For many people gaming is the best escape there
is-- a way to run away and be a hero (or villian), a person they can't
be in real life.
I also agree that "magic" is, as Stalin would say, the "opiate of the
gamer." However, with the amount of money it's inventor is making,
I wish I'd thought of it first!

I wholeheartedly agree. It's just a game. I find SR and any others
(T2000 is a kick) a great escape. I'm a chemist, now, but I still need
an acting fix. I used to do a great deal of acting and I love sliding
into a completely different persona for 5 hours and running around doing
things I will probably never ever do. If you take it too seriously,
maybe you should just sit back and consider why you started playing in
the first place. I'd bet money is wasn't to become fixated with Tor the
Barbarian and his horde of wealth. It was probably because it was fun
and you enjoyed kicking around with the people you played with. It's the
reason I keep playing.

Well, I have to agree that it "crack", for that is a very apt appraisal in
my view. If you want to play, and do not want to spend lots ands lots of
money, find a friend who has lots of cards, and borrow theirs. I've purchased
two packs, and the only reason I've not completely succumbed to the
addiction is because half my friends beat me to it. But it isn't such a bad
game for filling in time though, and as FIREPOWER said, it sure made the guy
who designed it a heck of a lot of money. (It's more based on luck than that
50% luck game Btech though.) If you have a spare $10 or something, and do
not play Magic, then don't go out and buy a pack, go and purchase a SR novel
or something, just don't get yourself on the (usually) unavoidable road to
financial oblivion, no gaming, and no life.

He he he, just had to bag it :-)

It is crack. But it's religious crack.

Anyway. Doesn't this seem kinda like BTLs in SR? people don't NEED them,
they're just nice to have. really. I wonder if they have some sort of
control emotions spell quickened on them?

THIS part of MAGIC can be fun, especially the stacking of decks. 5
regenerating Shivan Dragons with mountainwalk can be quite a bit of
fun. It's also the reason I don't play my friend-- the one who owns all
those cards. Granted, however, it is a little more fun than canasta,
but a lot less fun than strip poker.

Until they create a strip MAGIC, I'll stick to Shadowrun (and the
occassional Rifts, GURPS, T2000, Air Strike, Mechwarrior, etc....)

Minimal complications
