Do any of the SR novels have any good Rigger type stuff in them? I'd like
to get a bit more of an idea as to the character, more then the "Feel of the
wind over your hull" type things.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know about any sr novels, but a good novel that describes a rigger
is Hardwired. Personally I think if your going to playa rigger it's
required reading.

It's not SR, but Snow Crash has someone who in SR I'd consider to be a
primitive kind of rigger.

I guess you could try "Dead Air" by Jak Koke, but that's all I know off.

The main charactor in Just Compensation is a rigger.

Walter John Williams, I think. I can't find my copy.

HARDWIRED was written by Walter Jon Williams. I highly recommend it.

Bruce Sterling isn't qualified to tie Walter Jon Williams' shoes.

None, really. The only rigger-based fiction is really found in RBB2, and
it's not _that_ great.

You might like to know I'm working on a relatively detailed, somewhat
opinionated [!] piece of fiction centering on a rigger, for the SR Car Show
page. It won't be done for a while, and won't be up until the page is, but
it should be good. It looks pretty good so far. We'll see.

One could say that's because Bruce would have to stoop even to pat WJW's
head....

Williams's novels tend to be a bit more action intensive and use more
"sexy tech" and "big concepts". Sterling is a bit more subtle, and
can
sometimes seem slow to develop his plots, but his books seem to hit home on
relevant topics and real emotions. Both are good, but they are pretty
different in style.

It's nice to see a well thought out post regarding "cyberpunk"
authours and their perceived worth. Makes a pleasant change from some
of the knee-jerk reactions we see around here sometimes.

Thanks Mongoose
