So they are actually going to make armor reduce the power of the
bullet rather than providing automatic successes. Personally, I think
this stinks. The reason being, mages and other low body types have serious
problems in a firefight. Like dying. Easily.
Someone with a body of less than 4 will always take damage when
shot at with anything that does medium damage to start. Always. For our
game we use a rule that any damage that is staged away by using armor successes
is taken as one lower level of mental damage. I.e. character takes 8S3 from
a sniper rifle and rolls no successes on the body test. He does have 9
point of armor though. This means that he take a medium mental wound (one
category less than the armor offset). It makes firfights quicker, but it also
tends to knock heavily armored people out rather than killing them.
I know that people have been using this rule previously. Is it better
than the old system? Do mages tend to get zapped alot in firefights?
Thanks,
Skrag.

I hate to break it to ya, chummer, but guess what happens to people when
they get shot. You're really not going to like the "optional, deadlier
firefight rules."

Double the Power of all firearms.

No, they won't. Assuming that full heavy security armor has a higher rating
than a lined coat, the Power the target has to resist is lower in the armor
than in the coat. For example (not having any books handy) that a handgun
does 9M2, one mage (Body 3) wearing a lined coat (Ballistic 4, say) and
another (also Body 3) is wearing heavy armor (Ballistic 7, say). The first
would resist with their Body against a 5M2 attack, the second would resist
against 2M2 attack. Big difference--the second target would average 2
successes, dropping the damage to Light, the first may get one success
taking a Medium. The first target is hurt, the second is bruised a bit.

See the difference?
