Greetings, all! This is my first post to this list, so I thought I'd begin by
giving a little bio on myself.

My name is... well, it isn't really, but people do actually occassionally call
me this... anyway, call me Smiling Wolf. I'm a student at Hampshire College in
Amherst, MA. I GM Shadowrun, and I'm totally addicted to the backround
(although I'm the first to admit that the system is horrendous).

I noticed a query about the existance of other novels set in the Srun universe
besides the "Secrets of Power" trilogy. To my knowledge, there is only one
other novel; it's called "2XS", and was writtn by Chris Kubasik (the twisted
genius who brought us "The Universal Brotherhood"). I haven't read it, but if
it's anything like "Brotherhood"... yeesh.

Until later, may the shadows be deep and the hunt be kind!

Your humble servant,
Smiling Wolf

Hullo, Smiling Wolf. Welcome to the list. Heck, for that matter,
welcome to me - it's my first post, too. <grin>

>[query about all the Shadowrun books.]

There are currently a total of five titles set in the "Shadowrun
Universe":

"Into the Shadows" - An anthology with short stories written by damn
near anyone who has anything to do with Shadowrun. Some good, some
bad. One of the stories is beginning of the "Secrets of Power"
trilogy.

The "Secrets of Power" trilogy - three books (well, Douglas Adams calls
four books a trilogy, so I thought I'd make sure we were all talking
about the same number here) that chronicle the adventures of an
ex-wagslave named Sam. Very high adventure with epic proportions.
Big And Important things. I really wasn't terribly impressed, but
still read them for the background they supply. Just sourcebooks in a
different form.

"2XS" - The latest. Looks like a one-shot, from the same guy who
brought us the Universal Brotherhood. I don't think I'l be spoiling
anything by saying that the UB does make an appearance here. But the
book operates on a totally different level than "Secrets of Power."
The lead character (Dirk) isn't cybered or magically active. He just
knows people. (Detective archetype) This book has a great feel for
just living in 2050 - you get a much better idea of how day to day
things happen. It makes the story a lot more real, with Dirk not being
some monstrously powerful yobbo. I enjoyed it immensely, and
recommend it to any Shadowrun affecionado.

Hmmm. Hurm. Well, seems to be everyone's habit to give a minor
intro. My name's Jim Gaynor - only nickname that ever really stuck
was "Vampire," I won't go into that any further. <evil grin>. Been
playing/GMing Shadowrun since it came out - my rulebook is the
hardbound first printing, and my Grimoire is signed by Paul Hume.
(OOoo... I'm sure you're all terribly impressed. Yeah, right.)

In any case, I have a ball with it, and tend to stay more towards the
light side of Shadowrun that the death-and-drek side that some people
go towards. Heck, anyone who sits down and seriously figures out what
kind of Totem "Puppy" is has to be in it for the fun, eh?

Obligatory Shadowrun News:

Shadowrun II is currently in editorial, and Tom Dowd is "breaking his
heart" (in the words of Paul Hume) trying to get it finished and ready
in time for a release at this year's GenCON. Beta versions of the
Character Generation, Combat, and Magic sections are available for
download from FASA's library on GEnie. (but not on CompuServe).
