Someone asked this question to me and I had no idea what to say.

If you want to play a non-magical shadowrun game, what is better, the
shadowrun system or the cyberpunk 2020 system???

Oh lordy... I'm not sure if that was a good thing to ask. This could wind
up being as nasty as certain other topics that shall remain nameless, but are
mentioned in the FAQ as "DO NOT GO THERE!!!!"

Annnny way, I'd have to say that both systems are better at some things than
others. I like SR's cyberware and matrix systems better, myself, but I do
like the Interlock system for skill resolution better than SR's.

If you want to play a non-magical *shadowrun* game, Shadowrun is the better
system of course. CP2020 doesn't have any Shadowrun information and it would
be impossible to use CP2020 to play shadowrun, nonmagical or otherwise :)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Now, if your asking which is the better rules system, it's a matter of taste.
Both systems work well. Both have a few minor flaws. Each has a different
flavor. It's like asking, "Which is better, an apple or an orange?" It
depends on the tastes of the individual.

When it comes to world information, both of them are very solid. Again, it's a
matter of taste.

In short, there is no answer. Only the person asking the question can answer
it.

That depends very much on the players. CP2020 and SR both have good and
bad points, but which is which is something I guess everyone should decide
for themselves -- I'd say the best option is to try each of them for a few
sessions, and see which one you like best :)
