Hi there...

A few weeks ago someone mentioned the movie "Warriors" as a decent concept
for a Shadowrun Adventure. I had never seen the movie, or at least, never
seen the whole thing, so tonight I sat down and watched it on Cable
(Actually, I'm still watching it...:))

Anyways, I agree, it's a cool concept for a Shadowrun, especially if you
have a bunch of low level characters, or happen to have a bunch of Gangers
in your group.

However, I have a question... Do real gangs actually dress like that?? i
don't mean the bad 70's clothing in general, but the fact that each gang
had a specific "outfit". For example, one gang wore Denim Overalls
(Bringing images of farmers to mind), while another gang looked like a
bunch of fraggin' Mimes!

Now that would be embarrasing... Getting killed by a Gang of Mimes...
Watch out! They'll Pantomime you to death!!!

Ok, enough babbling...

Yes..Depending on the gang of course depends on what is expected of
the punk..er..member..For instance the Crip and Bloods use colors
Blue and Red..Usually a bandana [sp] will suffice..a lot of Hispanic
gangs like tattoos..50/50 and the like tatooed on the back of the
neck ..and then there is the general pun..er..gangster dress..huge
pants and boxer shorts pulled up to the chest..sorts of things..Which
has an interesting origin...huge pants - pooor folks unable to secure
new clothing for their kids give them what they have..this also makes
a great place to stash stuff at a 5 finger discount..this also works
for the over sized shirts..As for the boxers in themselves..Prison
issue..Many prisons/jails have boxers as part of the uniform..as for
pulling them up and the pants down..Well that is a prison thing that
those fellows who are -available- [in the biblical sense] do to let
the other faries know they are receptive..The higher the boxers the
more receptive to approach..lots of those kids out there don't
realise this..I laugh when I tell them the statement they are really
making...
In short yes..Most gangs do have some sort of uniform...

Was that supposed to be a threat?? It kinda looked like he pulled out
a gun or something and shot it at you...I couldn't really tell..He
isn't very good...

Gangs have "colors" which are items or ways they wear their clothing
to identify their allegiance. Those are normally a certain colored
bandana or the way your baseball cap is turned. Generally you would have
to be in the know or very observant to notice it. The gangs in Shadowrun
do this as well, although often slightly more flashy like the
Halloweeners. Street ettiquette is very useful to notice these things.

I don't know anything other than the LA county latino gangs. Their
favored mode of dress is beige slacks that are about 10 sizes to large -
also either sagging around the middle of the thigh or pulled high above
the belly-button, and a conventional 'undershirt' that is also about 10
sizes to large, tucked into afore mentioned slacks. And of course they
all have the same shaved-head hair cut and scowl.

I alway's loved that "lets be different by all dressing like a bunch of
clones" concept..

IIRC the traditional 'gang' dress in "A Clockwork Orange" was a sort of
skin-tight patterened (spider-webs in Alex's case) body suit.

That was me, and I'm sorry you chose to suffer through it all. Yes
the concept is cool, but you don't have to torture yourself. (I'd say
watching it all the way through was terminal taste deficit, but the guy
who showed it to me also introduce me to Babylon 5)

I think that "Warriors" took it to an extreme (I liked the pimp
gang in purple, myself), but yes, every gang has its own colors. I think
that the Seattle Sourcebook has some pictures in the back of gang members
in traditional uniform. Ivy and Chrome also mentions in the elf ganger's
colors
