Not having SSC1 on me, I was wondering if any of the shadow comments
changed from 1st to second? I'm specifically looking for a reference where
one person changes his time/date stamp, and several other people comment on
it in amazement :)
Heck, if you've seen that in any other book, let me know please. I believe
the decker changing the time/date stamp was The Smiling Bandit

I know that The Smiling Bandit does this in the Shadowtech Sourcebook and a
person by the name of KAM is amazed by it. He's tells her that he's not
going to tell her how he does it cuz then the next thing you know, everybody
would be doing it

The only other instances (that I know of) where the altered time/date
stamp is mentioned is Shadowtech (p 105 and 106) where KAM asks the
Bandit how he does it (he doesn't say), and VR2.0 (p.134, top of the
left-hand column) where a "normal" decker (if you can call deckers
"normal":) comments on a supposedly big-time decker's altered time/date
stamp. Most other times, the stamp, when altered, isn't even mentioned,
either everyone else can do it/everyone's used to seeing it. Seems like
there was a reference somewhere to a character (a non-decker) who had an
altered stamp, but I can't remember whether that was a .net publication
or an official sourcebook (Fields of Fire, if it is).

I think that at one point, changing the time/date was a very rare and
difficult thing to do, with Smiling Bandit being one of the first deckers
to figure out how to do it.

However, in later years, it became a fairly common thing for any competent
decker, either through simple knowledge, or even the newer softwhar
simplifying it...

In general, prior to SR2 stuff, Bandit was about the only one to do it.
There has been others since, though...

And now they've done away with the time-date altogether, so it's a moot
point anymore...

Don't you mean Shadowtech? That's where The Smiling Bandit has this custom
time/date stamp and others (KAM?) say it should be impossible blah blah
blah. None of the comments in my copy of the SSC (first edition) have
.sigs in the time/date stamp.

The book in question is Shadowtechnology.

The other book in question is the Rigger's Black Book. IIRC, The Smiling
Bandit changed his date stamp to Feb 30 or Feb 31st.
