If a Troll attacks someone with a monosword and just gets enough
successes to hit, the damage level is Medium. Even if his Str is
15. Granted the odds of the target resisting the damage are pretty
low, but still... I just think that high strength should be able to
increase the damage level of melee attacks. So, with that in mind I
came up with the following:

Strength = 1-6, no increase in damage level
Strength = 7-12, plus one damage level
Strength = 13-18, plus two damage levels
and so on...

What do you think?

Sorry, but I accidentally deleted the original mail.
Someone had an idea about making more damage when you're very strong.
Str 1-6 no mod
Str 7-12 +1 damage level
Str 13-18 +2
...
I have to disagree for several reasons.
1.) Game balance. I think that strong characters like your troll with
Strength 15 have enough advantages, but that's just MHO. (My elven-sammi has
Strength 15 too, so I know what that means.)
2.)The troll has raw power, so more or less everytime he hits he makes
damage, but that says nothing about lethality. The better you hit (ie. the
more successes you have) the more lethal you are (ie. damage level goes up).
So when the troll has many successes his victim is dead meat, but if he has
only one success he just grazes his victim which is due to his strength quite
painful, but not automatically deadly.

Hope that helps.

I do not think this is useful, because strength is not all it needs to make
some damage. The ability to fight is more important, an this will lead to more
successes. A high strength might enable a character to make some neat cuts, but
the cut must hit the right place (same with stun damage).

[snip: game balance and, lethality is a matter of skill]

Yep. I've had a couple days to think about it and came up with the
same reasons. Especially after browsing through the various damage
codes and realizing that there is no way a troll's punch is going to
be equal to a PAC.

Thanks.

<Snip>

I feel that strength is accounted for well enough in the power level of
the weapon. The wound level is determined more by the weapon itself, as
it should be.
