Actually you'd be surprised at the number of PC who begin the game without
one. I'm surprised by the number of PCs who begin the game without a
phone! Or useful contacts (like, for example, a fixer)! It makes it damned
difficult to integrate such PCs into the game. OTOH, it makes for some
funny and memorable events (such as the Chinese dwarf with English 1 who
managed to miscommunicate/misunderstand his way from the airport where he
landed to the back room of Bar X into a meeting with Mr Johnson, rather than
to his hotel room).

Oh boy, I'm one of the dummies in this regard. I'll always leave
something off the list, be it phone, pager, or even ammo. A couple
examples:

I made a character for a PBEM that was starting up NOW (as in: get your
character in pronto, or you ain't playin'). I got all the guns, ammo,
'softs and med supplies, but neglected to get a phone and other sensible
things. So when we began I decided he'd just been rumbled from an old
apartment and had had to leav a bunch of stuff behind. Pain in the butt.

Another character had a bike until I discovered I couldn't pay for his
programs... rather than cut down on the software, I cut out the bike. But
I'd already posted with him saying he had a bike... oops. So I just got
the GM to have it 'stolen' when we went to meet the Johnson. It was
amusing to see the other PCs try to scramble to save it while mine did
pretty much nothing but moan for a couple minutes and then forget about
it...

I'd say that experience would clear this problem up, usually, but I've
been gaming for years... :P

Wel to tell you the treuth noone has bought an pocket sec in our
group (exept for one of my caracters) for the last year i think.
Or if they had them they didn't use it..

And that go's for a Huge number of things that we never buy or use
Normal equipment or cyber/bio that i think would be very handy in
caracter X but the one that made it just looks at it and sayes
somehting like: hmmm maby next time

Jupe almost all of the caracters in this campain didn't even have an
phone, they bought it later in the game...

Now i usialy take quite a ot of stuf with me on a run and then ppl
start making remakes like: can your caracter carry that mutch,
why do you need al that junk ect ect, Its madning.

So that why i'm asking here :

My mage caracter
What kind of equipment should i alway's carry?

And what should i carry on an run
Bear in mind that he has an str of 2

Chip,

I happen to have a mage character in my game with a low Strength score.
She usually carries only her armour (Form Fitting 3), a silenced pistola
and a taser as well as a knife. As far as general gear goes, she packs a
multi-tool, 10 thick cable ties (I think some folks call them zip ties,
anyway, they are very handy) a flashlight, some certified cred, gloves,
her special sneakers with the Kevlar insoles (thanks Mr Gibson :) a
lighter, some energy bars, a Red Bull energy drink and whatever
communications 'tronics the team is using at the time.

Actually thats about all she can carry :)

Hope that helps .. but the gear your PC chooses to carry is really an
expression of how that character thinks and plans and survives. You know
that better than any of us... so tell us what you come up with.

Good luck

According to Chipeloi, on Mon, 23 Apr 2001 the word on the street was...

Well, you can just assume that they use it for everyday stuff without it
having to be really mentioned every time. When someone gives them an
address, you can assume they store it in the pocket secretary, for example.
(Though I'll admit that most players in our group will simply keep refering
to the piece of paper with the address...)

Well... they also had to, seeing as how everything they had on them got,
shall we say, removed :)

The problem is that many don't sit down and think about what they are
actually going to need. They'll buy the things that are most obvious at
character generation and go shopping for anything else when they need it,
or make do with what they have. So they'll end up using shotguns in every
combat because that's the only firearm they own, or discovering that it
takes a week to get an item they're really going to need in an hour...

My view is that you can better have too much gear than too little.

Like I said in my other post this morning: body armor, pistol with some
ammo, phone, micro transceiver (with encryption, though in our group you
won't be able to use that until everyone else buys it as well...) will be
the bare necessities that you should always have on you. Besides that, I'd
go for at least an SMG and a shotgun (take whichever seems best at the
time with you), plenty of different types of ammo for each weapon, some
different grenades, several types of body armor and clothing, a car (bikes
are nice but they have no trunk :) at least one false SIN, a general
toolkit, some slap patches (for your own use and on people you capture
during runs), a medkit, a DocWagon contract, and lots more that I can't
think of right now :)
