George will probably NOT direct the next Star Wars movies. He didn't direct the last two,
and from what I've read he doesn't like directing much anyway--
Too much pressure, deadlines, decisions to make. He gets off on editing
and producing. He's a storyteller.

Ok. If you follow the Star Wars space opera genre
then the force and 'space walking' is easily explainable.
First, the Force is a mystical 'energy' (I loathe to
use the word force) that is in and around living and
NON-living matter. Yoda even says something about it being
in rocks,..etc.
Second, the ships carry a small atmosphere by the use of
either sheilds or a field of some sort. And its decently
warm.
Third, an asteroid the size of the one shown probably has some
weak atmosphere around it. I mean that rock was HUGE.

Is Star Wars 1 out in the USA yet? If it is, what's it like - worth seeing?

Another question - which of you are old enough to have seen the first Star
Wars movie, when it was released, without parental supervision. :) Just
checking to see how many other old farts are on this list.

Neg on both counts...but, uh, without parental supervision? You don't need
supervision for PG movies.

It's been so long that I don't recall if I ever went without a
someone's parent present. Supervision wasn't required by the theatres but
from my parents yes. I was 8 at the time.

I saw it the drive in with the giant screen and the cheap speacker that made
everyone sound like they were talking into a tin can. Ah those were the
days, but then again I was so young that I don't remeber a thing about it as
I was only 4 or 5.

Not quite, I was 6. In fact, Star Wars premiered on my 6th birthday, May
25th, 1977. Actually, most of Lucas's films have had American release
dates on or around that date. Someone told me it's a lucky day for him,
for some reason. I somehow doubt it has anything to do with my birthday... :)

In answer to the first question, Star Wars 1 will be opening in America
sometime around that date; I think the 24th, but I'm not sure.

My poor choice of words. I meant a child old enough to be going somewhere
(anywhere) on his own - without adult supervision.

And I'm feeling lonely in the old fart's club at the moment. :)

Chris Maxfield indicated Star Wars

It's due out on May 21st in the US (We're going to have to wait until
June 3rd down here)

Besides, the proper trailor isn't due out for a couple of months yet.

Nope. I was born a few months after Star Wars came out.

Not me ... I was old enough to go and see 'Return of the Jedi' when
that came ... :)

Man I wish it was late spring here now so the new star wars movie was
in the cinema ...

I think it's scheduled for May.

Not me, but I did go and watch Return of the Jedi in the cinema with my
father (I was 8 at the time), probably the first time I ever went to see a
movie.

The first movie I ever saw was Star Wars. My mom raised me well!

*Waves* Me! Me! I still remember it very clearly since it was the
first film I've ever went to that wasn't a kids matinee special (read
bunch of cartoons), or a Disney.
I also remember that during the Empire Strikes Back the film burned
out and we left the cinema just before the end of the Hoth battle.
I was practically sleeping on their doorstep for the next showing :).

I guess I gotta throw my two cents in.

I was in first grade for the first Star Wars movie. That puts me about 6
years old, if I remember correctly. All the other kids were talking about
this great movie, and I finally convinced my parents to take me to see it.
It was great! From that point on, science fiction has been the love of my
life

I remember seeing it in the theatre. I also remember it having an
intermission in the theatre. (Though it was a while ago. Maybe the film
broke and I just thought it was an intermission).
