Watch 2001 some time...

In a movie like Star Wars, I feel you're right, the battle scenes would
be a lot duller if it weren't for the sounds. 2001 OTOH gets more
impressive because there is no sound when there's no air.

2001 isn't quite the kind of 'space movie' I was thinking of though...it
didn't involve any space battles, after all.
