Got a couple questions I need answering and sods law would be that I've currently lent out
my copies of Cyberpirates and T:SH.

What's the political situation in Cuba in SR times? IS it still communist? And if so, how
communist, e.g. full on cold war communist Russia to todays Chinese capitalist communism?

IIRC Cyberpirates mentions the Carib League Navy that Cuba is really pushing for. Can
someone confirm this?

Now to the Russia questions. IIRC the books state that Russia went back to a
non-democratic authoritarian government, is is a simple dictatorship, communism or just a
dictatorship dressed up like communism? IIRC it mentioned a Supreme Soviet, suggesting
communism. Thanks.

IIRC, the whole carib league is very capitalist. More Cayman Islands than
Cuba. I'm sure Communism died with Castro.

Back to? :)
The books so far suggest a welfare-capitalist economy. Probably still a lot
of central control. I'd call it a slightly fascist market economy. They
welcomed Yamatetsu after all, if it were still communist, the mega wouldn't
have moved there. Given the times of turmoil the world has gone through, the
gov't probably kept or seized more power after the fall of the Soviet Union,
but once the free market genie was out of the bottle, it was very hard to
put back in.

I didn't quite like what they did to Russia in Shadowrun. The impression I
got from Target: Smuggler Havens is that they wanted to put the whole "Red
Menace" angle back into the country, when, IMHO, it would be a much better
setting if they drew more from its medieval history and legends. The whole
of Russia would be sort of an Awakened nation, not just a shred of Siberia
(which, for some obscure reason, joined the NAN). An _internal_ clash
between the modern and the traditional would be much more interesting than
the unilateral war portrayed in T:SH, especially if they gave a better
treatment to Russian folklore (baba yagas? Argh.).

So, if you want to play in Russia, my suggestion is to get yourself a copy
of GURPS Russia and steal all your Awakened elements from that book :).

IIRC Cuba ceases to be a Communist state in about <Checks> 2014, Castro
retires due to ill-health and within weeks the influence of the communist
party collapses. Cuba then join up and form the Carib league.
