]So my questions to you are: What *are* the names of the
]books? What is the title of the series? Who wrote them? What is the time
]in which the stories took place? What are the stories about? Can a quick
]overview be given? This is worse than when that thread about the Lensmen
]started on GMAST-L. I still don't even know what a Lensman is either!
Fidgit => The titles that I can remember are:
The Man Who Never Missed.
The 97th Step
Matadora
The Machiavelli Interface
Albino Knife
Black Steel
Fidgit => and the new one out that I don't remember the title to.
Fidgit => They are all by Steve Perry. A fairly good author.
Fidgit => The first three are indespensible, in my opinion, but then things
Fidgit => start resembling a one-shot at a TSR tournament. Artificial.
Fidgit => They describe (among other things) an unique "religion," political
Fidgit => viewpoint, and a look at "us" in about a couple of centuries.
Fidgit => Not a light-hearted viewpoint by any means. The first three books
Fidgit => mostly pertain to the life and times of Emile Khadaji who (no
Fidgit => spoilers here guys, but it is in the title) is the Man Who Never
Fidgit => Missed. More info available via e-mail to me, ot the rev (but 'e'll
Fidgit => talk your ear off), or a couple of others on the list whom I do not
Fidgit => remember.
] What is a Spetsdods? I know what a Spetznatz is, but not a
]Spetsdod. No discription was given when somebody posted stats about them a
]couple odd days back. They looked kinda like finger mounted weapons, but I
]couldn't tell for sure.
Fidgit => Firstly, Spetdod is singular, Spetsdods is the plural. It should
Fidgit => have the umlaut over the 'o,' but not all computers show that right.
Fidgit => It is a "perversion" (as per Doom) of Spetz-Toten, which equates to
Fidgit => "point death." This has a great deal to do with the weapon's
method
Fidgit => of operation. To shoot, you point at the target. The weapon itself
Fidgit => consists of a barrel and a magazine for ammo. The barrel is set to
Fidgit => the back of the hand by the use of moldable plastic so that it
Fidgit => extends out over the index finger. The end of the barrel responds
Fidgit => only to particular chemical compounds (in this case, your fingernail)
Fidgit => and thus, when you touch the barrel with your fingernail, it fires.
Fidgit => It is a compressed-gas weapon, and fires darts. These are wonderful
Fidgit => against unarmored targets, but it is harder than hell to effect an
Fidgit => armored target, even lightly armored. That calls for a shot to a
Fidgit => relatively unarmored region, like the back of the kneww or any other
Fidgit => numerous hinges in a suit of armor.
Fidgit => One thing that was inaquately mentioned in the posting on the
Fidgit => spetsdod is the SPASM ammo.
Fidgit => Firstly, this is very, very military. Unlikely the characters will
Fidgit => ever see it (unless you plan to put the gov't in too). Also, it is
Fidgit => (in the book) a combination bateriological-virological poison, which
Fidgit => causes the voluntary muscles to clench uncontrollably. The reason
Fidgit => that there is no known cure is that the poison, being "alive,"
mutates
Fidgit => faster than the body can fight it off, and it never does it quite the
Fidgit => same way, so you can't beat it down the line, either. The only thing
Fidgit => to do is wait out it's six month lifespan, and keep the patient in
Fidgit => VERY EXPENSIVE therapy in order to keep bones from breaking and the
Fidgit => body working. I mean expensive on the order (in this system) of
Fidgit => approx 500,000Y EACH!
Fidgit => Alsom there was no mention in the books about the high-explosive
Fidgit => darts in the book, and I think that the damage code is all wrong.
