No, Mr. Wigley didn't take it down. The people who run The Shadowrun
Archive did. (If Mr. Wigley has this rule up on one of his own pages,
it's still available, but unfortunately, the only URL I had for it was
on the Archive.)

Put this text in your screen saver configuration: "When it's ready".

Now, whenever you want to know when the Archive is up, let your computer
idle until your screen saver comes up.

We will loudly and clearly announce the relaunch of the Archive. If you
miss it, you're blind.

And if this seems bitchy to you, it is. If you, by your own admission, are
being an ass by asking a question, WHY ASK IT?

I asked Aaron last night (I keep in touch with the core operators of my former
PBEM(s)), he said it is probably still up, but he hasn't touched the "yoyo"
site in so long, he wasn't instantly certain what the addy was anymore.

Personally, I'd much rather the site be up *now* and buggy/incomplete
than have to wait. I'm an impatient lad, and HTML makes it a snap to
add a section at a time. *shrug* Release early, release often. It
works for me.

Everybody knows this by now - that's not the problem. I think most
people are just getting a little twitchy from withdrawal. The Archive
has been down for 3 months now (and the title page *still* says that
it'll be up Sept 1998 ;-) )...

He didn't say he was being an ass, just that he was likely to get a
carping (accompanied by a large shout of "WHEN IT'S READY!", no doubt).
However, I *don't* think that it's too much for somebody to give an
inkling of how much longer we'll have to wait. Are things almost done?
Half done? Barely started? Are you running into unexpected problems?

People *want* to be sympathetic to any problems/delays that are
occuring, but keeping the thing under a tarp is going to bring out
the conspiracy theories sooner or later...

Trust me. you didn't want the half finished, barely able to navigate one up
way back when. It was horrid...

Right now, one unexpected problem. The protection on the site, so there. :P

Oh.... I *love* conspiracy theories.... Can't be any worse than the ones I
have seriously thought about starting. *grin*

Ah. A valid reason to not open the site yet. That wasn't so hard,
was it? :-)

When the Archive was going to be down for a few weeks to a month, I would
have said it was better to do it the way we chose to do. After nearly 3
months, I wish we would have rolled it out gradually. Not entirely my
choice though, since I didn't do the majority of the coding on the Archive.
Also, I wasn't the one moving from Italy to Canada in the middle of it.

Hey, it's a FASA game. We're just being like them... :)

(If you think you're twitchy, you should see -us-.)

I quote from his email: "Nocturnal, the pain in the ass"

(I snipped it the first time because I always snip the persons
name/tagline/sig.)

Almost done. I say it at least hourly on Undernet #Shadowrun (The first
place that will know..), we're almost done, we're working out last minute
problems, but everyone who's working on it also has a RL job, school, etc.

Okay. I'm coming clean.

The Shadowrun Archive has been sold to Microsoft.

I dunno, Keith...I thought it was damned hilarious myself. Considering the
kinda day I've had, I needed the laugh. You might consider lightening up a
little.

Oh gosh, that ain't how I meant it. Sorry I didn't include the smiley there.
There was a reason though I was wanting to mention it.

Granted, I don't see it happening, but in this psychotic little world of
mergers, buyouts, and "gimme's", anything goes.

And I *was* light on that one.

Personally, I just read it as a message borne of the frustration involved
with continually needing to answer questions about the missing Archive.

"He said WHAT?! about Microsoft!?" *SNAP* "I gotta respond to that!"
