Hiya Peoples!

Just thought I would update you on what's going on in our local
game...and to ask for some advice for a friend...

CAST:
Jeffrum--Troll street sam/day job at stuffer shack/more skill chips than
you could find at Fuchi...Has a basically empty aura in astral.

(Little Girl)--Otaku...she's gonna die. It's not a very matirix
oriented game, if she had been in attendence last night...

Jammer--my hermatic alter ego, refuses to summon elementals, knows only
combat spells + heal@*** force

Prodij-I--A runner wannabe, no cyber, no bio, no real skills, a natural
combat leader, fond of shooting 2 guns at retreating cars.

Cloud Strife (me)--Pegasus shaman, newly initiated.

STORY
Our Fixer (Robert DeLongville) had us meet at The Rage, his bar.
Wanted us to "extract" a scientist named Richard. We agree, I fail
miserable on a negotiation roll...
Otaku girl walks inside building after doctering some files. "I'm
looking for my mommy..." Cloud and Jammer in astral space to tag along.
We get the good doctor out w/out a hitch. He climbs aboard Jammers
getaway vehicle...a stock Jackrabbit. (35kph) We are pursued by a
Nightsky that amazingly enough eludes Jammer and his drive skill of 2.
We arrive at the meet and the Jackrabbit is hosed by a dude with a
grenade launcher (the front 1/2 of the car is gone...) There's a tricked
out Elf running along at 86kph and a Troll that can jump about 20-30
meters at a time. Jeffrum stops his bike in the middle of the street
and geeks the second person he see's. (luckily for us it was the mage).
Jammer takes out an ork physad with a power bolt and Cloud almost bites
it by accepting a grenade in the chest.
A black Bulldog drives up...a turret extends from the roof and
proceeds to waste whats left of the Jackrabbit. Everyone hides.
Jeffrum pulls out his combat axe and charges the Bulldog...Cloud summons
a City spirit. The Bulldog takes off after rescueing the
counter-extraction team. Cloud and his one service Spirit follow
astrally with an Accident. The bulldog still gets away and a newly
freed elemental thanks me from a distance for freeing it. Unfortunatly
the Elemental manifests and steals the mages weapon focus (damn).
Richard becomes a new Street Doc contact
We get paid.

The second day:
Robert tells us to "extract" some superconductor data from University
of Washington. If we can grab the researcher there's a bonus. Oh yeah,
Knight Errant is gaurding the building.
While discussing our options in a coffee shop accross the street from
the building that the data was in, Jeffrum noticed that the researcher
we're looking for is right outside. Jeffrum and Cloud follow her into
the parking structure while Prodigy and Jammer break into her office.
They steal the files and find Jeffrum sitting next to a brand new
Eurocar Westwind 2000.
While in the parking structure, Cloud summoned a spirit and caused a
little accident with the good doctors car (the westwind). Jeffrum walks
up and offers to fix her tire. She agrees. While they are talking
Cloud gets impatiant and fires a Stun Bolt at her(7 successes). She's
still standing, albeit woozily. Jeffrum pulls out a Narcoject and
shoots her, wounding her seriously. Anyway, we stole her car and waited
for the others.
We called Robert up just three hours after he gave us the job. He was
impressed and told us to take the doctor to a park and meet some
dudes...We do and we get paid. We also kept the Westwind.

Later that day:
We drive down to Fort Lewis (or rather, a gas station near there) in a
rented pickup to steal an experemental new engine for a Mechanic friend
of Jeffers (the dude has 15 contacts!). She wants the engine in
exchange for tricking out our new Westwind w/some armour, turbo, and
NoFlat tires.
Turns out that some Renraku goons beat us there. We tangled with
another Bulldog and it ended up in Flames. We steal the engine and drag
Prodigy to the Truck (he's afraid of shamans so refuses my help). We
burn the gas station down (so as to eliminate any possible ritual links;
we were pretty fucked up) I summon a City spirit and Conseal us as we
drive away.
Not 20 seconds after we take off the UCAS 101st Airborn division shows
up. Just a couple of seconds too late. Suffice to say that when we got
back we had made the evening news (no pictures of us). The mechanic
chick was spooked and told us that when she was done to never talk to
her again.

So now we have a cool car that most of us can drive (no rigger...) and
we lost a contact...hmmm.
_______

Question: The GM and 2 of the other runners have heaped upon my
shoulders the task of convinceing Jammer's play OOC that he needs to
summon elementals...I tried being direct but he didn't get it; Any
suggestions?

He also wants to know just WHY he should summon an elemental?

Any nefarious uses for elementals? How about "normal" uses?

Thanks for...listening/reading (?)

I'm not sure if this is a house rule or not, but in my game after it's
initial summoning an elemental can be sent off to it's metaplane until
the Mage resummons it (requiring a complex action). That means that the
mage can have help "on call".

Ask him to read all of those nifty powers that elementals have.

And one last point, make sure that he isn't playing a character that
doesn't like to summon elementals.

If the GM wants him to break down and start using Elementals he/she
should start setting up situations where an elemental would be
useful..

>He also wants to know just WHY he should summon an elemental?

I am a bit curious why this person has crippled his character in this
manner elementals are useful in a number of ways..including the
ability to engage more than one enemy at the same time..And they are
great for creating diversions..

It sounds weird, but I too have a mage that has this problem. In his
case, it is a shamen. He has only summoned a spirit once in the game, and
the character has been with us for nearly a year. He only summoned that
one because the party realized that his spirit could help them keep a very
important person from dying by using the movement power.

I've never come up with a way to convince him to summon. *shrug*

Man, you need to break down and buy the Grimmy and Awakenings. Next
you'll be asking me for Praire Dog and Phoenix...

Until then my trenches will be dug, and I will be manning the Carp
launchers and the rapid fire thwappers...8p

Anyway,
+1 detection, health spells
+2 for summoning sky spirits
Must make a Will (6) roll to enter a building (Pegasus hates to give up
the freedom of the open sky). Must continue to make these rolls every
hour inside until your willpower in hours. Then your ok.
If ever you become trapped, you enter the Death Frenzy. +2 to all
physical stats, you don't die until you escape...then you die (ie. you
take all the damage that you should have taken while in the frenzy.

Enjoy, I know I do...

You know, you tend to make a REALLY good impression on your johnson when
he gives you your job and you turn and sprint to the front door as fast
as you can, knocking over people on your way out...But at least you
won't be indoors anymore. 8)

As a shaman, he might see spirits as sentient lifeforms. Maybe he just
doesn't like making them his slaves...

Hey,
How'se it goin'?

Why does it have to be slavery? I'm (my character) always polite to the
spirits I summon. I "ask" them to do things and I thank them when they
are done. I think I might actually be making friends with a certain
Force 4 City Spirit...then again maybe not.

You might ask them to do the stuff, be he just can't say 'No!'. You call
hi, out of his home-plane, make him do things that may be dangerous to
him...stuff like that. There's this nice passage in 'Burning Bright' where
that mage get's really depressed after he found out what he did to his
spirit ally....
