Just a query, this 12 dice to roll, how did you get this. The way I read the
ST rules was that you only got to roll dice equal to the tactical computers
level ie 1-4 depending on which one you have. Is there something wrong
with my interpretation, or is the Australian release of ST different to other
releases.

I do believe that you are correct with your interpretation of the Tactical
computer. According to the ST rules:

Characters with a tactical computer add the computer's rating to their initiatie, however
an initiative value calculated in this fashion cannot exceed the
normal Reaction maximum.

The example they give in the book is:

A character has a Reaction of 4 + 1D6 and a level 2 tac comp. So when rolling,
he may add +2 when determining initative. But by chance, if the person rolls the maximum
possible without the tac, (10), he is unable to add the +2. The
initiative stays at 10.

Greetings.
I have found that there is nothing more fiendish than a properly
augmented samurai with a tactical computer. At least in the realm of
personal firefights.
The rating for the computer _starts_ at the listed rating. _Every_
piece of sensory enhancment which the subject gets adds a +1 to the rating
of the tac-comp. An orientation system adds +2. It is easy to get a 10+
rating tactical computer. At short range, getting on average 5+ successes
adds 5 dice to hit. Pair this with a firearms skill of 6+ and a
smartlink, and you have a monster.
The computer also gives you it's base rating in a bonus to your tactics
skill, which is a specialization of leadership. Military theory is
logistics and strategy, forget it. What you want in the field is the
leadership skill.
This augmentation is worth every bit of essence. IMHO, of course.

Pray tell where did you find the comments on the additions to the rating.
For I do agree with you on it, but I cann't find anything about it in the ST
source book. Am I going blind, or is my ST book different? {being an
Australian release}

Well, it looks like the tactical computer bonuses for initiative is getting
a little examiniation tonight. Just to make sure that everyone knows, this is
it:

Location: Shadow Tech by Karl Wu on page 53

First paragrah:
"Each individual exatra sense (low-light, thermographic, hearing amplifica-
tion, high frequency, and so on) type present increases the tactical computer's
level by 1. The presence of an orientation system adds 2 to the tactical
computer's level."

For bonuses to initiative - Paragraph 7 on page 53:
"Characters with a tactical computer add the computer's rating to their
initiative."

Don't forget, that no matter how high the rating is on the tactical computer,
the total initiative value that the character rolls may not exceed the max the
character may have without the computer. So:
A street sam with a reaction of 4 with a 1D6 for initiative and has a tac comp
of 4, may never have an initiative higher than 10 (unless he has some other
piece of cyberware that does the trick!)

Hope that helps chummers!

Hello again.
Actually, the best writeup I've seen of the Tactical computer was on
this list. I believe that someone curious sent word in to the DLoH, via
Doctor Doom. I just remember a long list of all of the mods that add to
the rating of the TacComp.
Can anyone back me up here?

If anyone has the post handy, or the date posted, that'd be cool.
I'm also curious. ;-)
