cyber eyes are a must for any mage who is thinking about taking cyberware.
Typically a mage can target a mana spell on anything in there LOS , enhanced
only by optical devises such as gun sights and binoculars (things with
lenses) but because cybereyes are paid for with essense they count as your
natural sight. So you could get very essense friendly electronic
magnification and be one hell of a magical sniper, this also reduces the
difficulty with ranged weapons as a benifit. You could also get thermo and
target people using there heat signature as in on the other side of a wall
or hiding in a car.

Not quite. You need to get optical magnification if you're a mage (0.2
instead of 0.1 essense IIRC), and you can't target by heat signature. Not
that that stops a mage from dropping an elemental manipulation spell on
the target, but it screws up any plans you have for a manabolt.

I don't suppose you can back those up? I don't disbelieve/distrust
you, I just don't remember either statement from the rulebooks.

Admittedly, darkness shouldn't be a huge issue for a full magician,
since they can use Astral Perception (or did the light in astral space
thing change between editions?).

Get a pair of pocket binoculars, already :) Something about molehills
and mountains.... ;)

I think you still need optical lenses, IRC. Electronic give you a
representation of the image electronically, not the actual view you
see. And you need that physical connection. Optical were always
designed to be in cyber anyway, so FASA's specification that you needs
them for magical stuff holds, IMHO.

Can you target someone through thermo? I cant think of anything to say
you can't, but ti doesn't sound right somehow. If it was a natural
thermo, or maybe even thermosense bioware, then sure, but cyber thermo is
presumably electronic analysis of the image overlayed with the actual
image, not natural. And in my book that says no no. You could still
have it, and use it for normal stuff, but it would not allow you to
target on thermo alone, IMHO.

IMO, you can through natural thermo, like a dwarf or troll, but not cyber
thermo, since that's not a "real" image you're seeing, but rather the
computer representation of it.

That's a point we can contend, since how could you cast through
cybereyes at all, they're just transmitting an electronic image? I'd
say, if it's in yer eyes and you paid essence for 'em, you can do it.

Or a magical adept who's bought thermo vision, or a
mage who's quickened (or sustaining) a spell that
gives him thermo vision. It's a given that adept
powers are treated as natural abilities for stuff like
this and I'm inclined to treat magical spells in the
same way.

Gurth doesn't allow that because Blue Thunder is not an entirely realistic
movie :) Sure, you can see through walls with thermographic vision.
However, whatever you're seeing must have been leaning against the wall (or
at least heating up the wall somehow) for long enough for the heat to get
to the other side. Even then it's going to be like seeing someone through a
shower curtain, though.
