First, an answer to that special person who isn't a computer person but
wants to be:
The Compress program is not like Strip. Compress eliminates all
the "spaces" in code; an analogy would be to cram every letter and number
of your stereo instructions together. Strip removes redundant code; the
analogy is more like using a single diagram for all the stereo instructions
to refer to. Also, I'm not sure since I don't have VR, but I think Compress
just makes things small for storage, while Strip makes it small to beginl
with. Apply the size mods for Strip before modding for Compress.

I like Rob's last explanation for Strip (that it removes redundant and
unneeded code, like "Tandy.EXE" when you've got a Fuch Cyber 4. BTW,
can we stop capping Strip? (every post I've seen thus far calls it
STRIP). :)

Programming Languages.
Let's make sure we're approaching these from the same direction. They
seem to be optional, because they increase the size of the program. I view
them as tools, without which you cannot write a program. I would assume that
the time a decker spends writing a program is also spent making it as compact
as possible. The program actually used is the compiled version. I'll think on
it and maybe post my own take on programming languages later.

Yes they are tools. The usual compiler which produces standard code I called
the CGI. This gives no bonuses and costs very little. This or a better
version is required to program.

Hmm, that's a holdover from a really old computer class I took and I guess
is habit. Program names are always capitalized to differientiate them
from standard words. (ie. I run the STRIP program, but I strip to my
undershorts).
