There's a local store going out of business and it has some SR stuff left.
Among them are Corporate Download, Target: Matrix, Cyberpirates, Brainscan,
Corporate Punishment, and some 2nd ed. books (I think Germany sourcebook,
etc). I'm considering Corporate Download, but not sure if it's really worth
it or not. I'm definitely not sure about the other books.

Can I get some opinions here?

Well, as an avid SR-book lover, I'd recommend everything. But I know
that's not the answer you want :) So I'll be selective.

Corporate Download is cool, and necessary for dealing with those nifty
new corps (and updating the stodgy old ones). It's a good book, not at all
the same as Corporate Shadowfiles (in case you ever get the option to pick
that up). I enjoyed it.

Target: Matrix I'm not so big on. It's well-written, without the sort of
This-Is-The-Biggest-Yet mentality that permeates some other books (I'm
thinkin' pointy-ears here). It's got some neat bios of prime deckers and
some neat locales, and gives you lots of options if you're using deckers
in your game. But the thing is, most people don't use deckers... you could
argue that's because there hasn't been much info on the Matrix, but
regardless, how much of the book are you gonna use? It's certainly not
necessary for a person on a limited budget.

Cyberpirates is cool, cooler than it sounds. Lots of info on the
Caribbean and other locales you might not regularly use. It's also got the
ship rules (Rigger 3's got 'em now, too). But again, if you're hurting for
moolah and wondering what's urgent, skip it.

Corporate Punishment is an adventure, and therefore way down on the
priority list for most people (me definitely included). Get it if you want
it. Nothing earth-shattering in there.

Brainscan is neat. Although it's an adventure (see above) it's one that
matters in SR history, as it basically ends the Renraku Arcology fiasco.
I'm playing it right now by PBEM and having a good time despite knowing
what's going to happen (more or less), which is more than I can say for
some FASA modules (mainly the earlier ones). But you might want to get
Renraku Arcology: Shutdown first.

So there you are, mini-reviews for your purchasing pleasure. Use them
wisely. And if you see Universal Brotherhood in some dark, dusty bin... dibs!

According to DojiKimura@***.com, on Fri, 27 Apr 2001 the word on the street was...

Corporate Download is handy if you need background info on the megacorps,
for example if they feature heavily in your campaign. Target: Matrix is
really only handy if you have one or more decker PCs in the group, while
Cyberpirates is a good book but only if you're planning on running a
pirates campaign (in which case it's almost indispensible). Brainscan and
Corporate Punishment are adventure sets, pretty good if you're short on
ideas.

For a normal Shadowrun campaign and group, I'd go for Corp Download, or
perhaps Target: Matrix if you've got a decker. Alternatively, if you're not
that good at designing your own adventures, Brainscan or Corporate
Punishment would be decent investments.
