Could someone tell me in which book, and which page number I can find the
bloody rules for suppression fire. I've been searching through my SR
books all morning and haven't found it yet.

The cheezy version in the SR2 rulebook is called ``Stray Shots.'' It works
moderately well for suppressing an area. Fields of Fire has a much better
mechanic, but if you don't have FoF, you can use the stray shots rule
instead.

In the rules section in the back of Fields of Fire. I don't know the page
off-hand, but I do know the rules are alphabetically ordered, so looking up
"Suppression Fire" shouldn't be too difficult.

There in the back of the Fields of Fire sourcebook.

Suppression Fire

During the game last night, one of the characters decided to hose down a
hallway with his AK-97. I said great, we'll just look at the suppression
fire rules, that's exactly what they are for.

I took a few minutes to quickly look through the rules section of Fields of
Fire, which is where I remember reading them. I then took a few more minutes
going through them, and still couldn't find them.

I didn't want to waste anymore time looking for them, so I told him to pick a
target. I then promised to find them before next week's game. Could someone
please let me know what book and page number these rules were on. I do
remember reading them, I think...

They are in Fields of Fire on page (he says, dragging out his
well-thumbed copy) 78, under the section entitled Covering/Suppression
Fire. Betcha looked under "S", didn't ya? :)

You probably were looking for a header saying "SUPPRESSION FIRE."

Which isn't in the book. You need "COVERING/SUPPRESSION FIRE" on page 78...
I know, I did the same thing so many times that it finally got through to me :)

They're in the back of FoF under the heading, "Covering/Supression
Fire." That's probably why you didn't find it.

/
/ this is good and bad... I never saw FoF, but I personally would limit the
/ number of possible hits to the number of rounds fired. The way you described
/ it, david, makes it sound like I could blast off 10 rounds at that sammie and
/ get more than 10 hits, which defies the laws of physics.... unless your
/ shooting L.H Oswald's rifle......

You know, you're right. The way I've been doing it (whether it's by the
book or a house rule) is flawed.

Okay, roll a number of dice equal to the number of rounds fired divided by
the number of square meters being fired into, vs anything that moves in,
into, or out of the area being fired into. The base TN is 4, modified by
cover and the shooter's wound modifiers.

If a character fires 15 rounds into a 2x3 meter area, then 2 dice are
rolled (15 / (2 * 3)) vs anything that moves in, into, or out of that
area until the beginning of the firer's next action.

If a target is hit stage the damage normally. Do *not* stage the
damage per the multiple rounds rules (+1 Power per round, +1 Damage
level per thre rounds).

Keep in mind that this is an abstract system. One success does not
necessarally equate to one round. Multiple successes might mean one
round in a vital area. One success might mean multiple rounds nick the
target.

And you might end up with more hits than rounds fired. This might mean
that one or more rounds (or round fragments) hit more than one
character.

Sound better? :)

/ /
/ / Well, you could always use the base TN for the range rather than a flat 4
/ / at all ranges. This makes it more difficult to put rounds onto a target at
/ / longer ranges even when using suppressive fire.
/
/ But, the TN is for the bullets to hit anything within the area.
/ Whether the area saturated is at short range or long range shouldn't
/ change this.
/
/ What you could do is to subtract one die from the suppression dice per
/ range category beyond short range. This could be countered by a
/ successful firearms test

TN based on range, modified by wound modifiers, firer's movement, and
-1 per extra meter being supressed beyond the first (if a character
wants to suppress four square meters then they would apply a -3 to the
TN).

/ for which each success rolled adds one die to
/ the suppression dice (increasing the suppression dice up to a maximum
/ equal to the number or rounds fired divided by the number of square
/ meters being saturated).
