The bone structure of the creature has completely changed, and the arm is
anchored to the bone via some means or another. Changing shape will ruin
that completely. As for the body adapting, that would assume that there is
some control over the change sub-conscious or other-wise, but a shaper can
turn into an animal, a human or (depending on your source) some where in
between and nothing more.
