Great idea!!!

I've been toying the idea around a bit. Have you thinked about such
simple and common things that we today take for granted as fuel for
vehicles? Electric power for the remaining technology? Solar energy
perhaps, but with a nuclear war, maybe dust would cloud for the sun.
I'm sure that nuclear energy will be feared, if at all possible with
the remaining tech.

Money would no longer have any value - instead people would trade
with items as clean water and food, and of course weapons to defend
their precious possesions.

Just my 0.02 ecu worth of ideas.

Well Time to add my two cents.

If you want to get a lot of info on a Post Apocalytic
world take a look at "The Morrow Project". The
game system that tells you nuclear strike sites,
Bio and Chem weapons, mutiations, and rad sickness
effects.

If you like that stuff. I like Shadowrun and
Morrow Project.

end of line.....

this sort of setting has a lot of unexplored potential. many themes that have
only been lightly touched upon in games like rifts and morrow project could be
enriched and explored more fully. for example, to extend a shadowrun concept:
in the shadowrun universe, the awakening of magical power was chaotic enough by
itself. now suppose that, rather than having occurred spontaneously, the
magical awakening had been triggered by some energy-releasing event of human
origin (a nuclear holocaust?) the implications of such a connection would
throw a whole new light on the idea of magic, the use thereof, the general
populace's view of magicians, magicians' view of themselves, etc. i think the
postapocalyptic idea is a strong background concept for development of an
intellectually rich game.

Weaving a couple threads together here (wrong game?), how about this
scenario:

A few decades in the future from our present 2060 SR setting,
metahumanity has more firmly established itself into near-earth orbit,
the moon, and to a lesser degree, the rest of the solar system; the
near-apocolypse happens on Earth. Now we have those in space with the
tech and remains of civilization, and those on earth scrounging for
existence, but retaining the exclusive use of magic and spirits, much to
the concern of those left on the high frontier.

And just for fun, let's not forget to throw in some Waterworld-like
pockets of civilization, too, not just land based survivors; with
Cyberpirates, it should be fairly doable...
