That depends on the State you live in. Some places like Massachusetts =
(where I live) require a whole lot more than that especially if it's a =
pistol. Others (like Arizona and Nevada) don't even have gun licenses You =
just need to have a Social Security Number and proof of residency. Which =
means, I think you don't even need to be a citizen a perminant resident =
alien will do (I'm not too sure on this point though being that I am a US =
Citizen). Hell in Arizona unless they've changed the laws in the last 5 =
years you can go just about anywhere with a gun strapped to your hip as =
long as it's not concealed.

Actually most of what you say is true (I do live in Arizona<g>) You do not
have to register firearms in the state of Arizona and you can wear one
visibly except for into bars or establishments which have posted a sign
saying you can't bring a weapon. We also have a concealed carry law which
means if you take a course and register your fingerprints and let the FBI
do a background check that you can conceal ANY weapon that is normally
legal anywhere except bars and places saying you can't.
WHEW!! When I bought my first firearm it was after the Brady bill had
already been passed and it still only took my fifteen minutes for the whole
process.
