I was right in the middle of a story preparation when the following situation
came up:
A character (elf) is making one of these rituals (it's his 18. birthday).
He went of in the matrix to stay there for 3 days. (very short version of
the story but it doesn't matter). Now, is it possible to sleep in the
matrix and awake latter at the same spot?

IMO the answer is yes, it's like sleeping before a TV set, when the sound
doesn't wake you, you're sleeping. In the matrix just add feel, smell etc.

I would like to hear some opinions,
bye,
Stefan

If I understand the Decking rules properly: if a Decker is knocked
unconscious by IC, he is dumped from the system. When a person is asleep,
he is usually in an unconscious state, although not stunned like above.
Therefore if you must be conscious to stay in the system, you could fall
asleep in the system; but as soon as you did, you would get dumped.

Because of the above reason, I let my deckers modify their decks to bypass
that. That option and a flip-switch-type modification that allows the decker
to flip to real-world, disconnect himself from the deck, get a quick bite to
eat, and come back hoping there isn't black IC latched onto his icon.

I'd say you could fall asleep in the matrix, just as long as you keep
yourself fed while you're in there (just go to a hospital to see how to do
that).

Sounds like Case in William Gibson's Neuromancer. He did that to when hacking
into systems and it took him more than a few hours. Ah, yes, and this
switching between the senseinput from molly's sensors and the actual decking.
I like it. Have to have a word with my decker (or better wait 'till he show
up with this idea 8)

He was only 3 days in the matrix. He can drink afterwards and change his
underware 8)

But that's direct confrontation with ICE, a combat situation.
I don't think one would be dumped just because he/she takes a nap,
it would be like sleeping on your keyboard while being logged
in anywhere via Internet. Maybe you get dumped after a while for
being Idle, but not if the decker did his/her job well in advance (messing
the system)

I'd probably get dumped for not paying the huge bill that would result from
falling asleep while logged in, courtesy of the Dutch phone company :(
Though if you would mess with their computer first, it might be a different
story... :)
