Actually, the thing about Troll porn brought something to mind... Have the
various races established their own standards of beauty yet? I mean, do
trolls find elven women hot, or has the troll standard of beauty changed to

Physical attraction is both genetic and environmental. As a result,
metahumans are probably disposed, genetically, towards their own type, and
disposed (socially) towards the 'beautiful' ones (humans/elves).

So, yeah, a troll or ork probably would find a nubile young elf appealing,
but they'd prefer their own kind most of the time. :)

Remember, also, you probably grew up lusting after supermodels and movie
stars, but compare that to what turns you on now... :)

Hmm... interesting, and a very important point. The world would look
subtly different if everyone wanted the good looking elves, and noone
wanted the Big Ugly Trolls, or dwarves, yuck!

In a way some of the races epitomize extremes of current trends -
elves would be the too-tall, too-thin supermodels, orcs would be the
surf jocks, trolls the 'world's strongest man' kind of guys, dwarves
the... um.. short guys? and humans just guys. In that light, sure,
interracial lust would exist and flourish... but viewed as slighly
kinky. It would possibly also be a mark of status to have an elven
chick or orc hunk as 'companion'.. probably each would be
considered very good 'bed company'. (Same stereotyping as asian
girls, african men today.). I would think there'd be a fairly strong
genetic drive to have same-race partners, which would colour
attraction. While the troll might find the elven chick pretty to look
at, it wouldn't necessarily trigger a feeling of lust.

I think the two races that would be left out would be dwarves and
trolls, while the 'in' races would be elf-human-orc, since the
three are fairly similar in height and not too divergent. Dwarves ar
e a bit iffy.. they are short, which is considered an unattractive
trait, but they are also close enough to human norm it could easily
be overcome. Trolls are definitely out, except for the very
adventurous..

which was well illustrated by the original message. (The one intended
for 'troll boy'. ) - the image of anyone wanting a troll is somewhat
ludicrous, while to a troll it wouldn't be at all.

*chuckle* I should have named the girl 'Betty' (quick, everyone! Spot the
obscure reference to an SR product!).

Seriously, though, a male troll probably would admire a female troll's
polished ivory horns, and the shapely configuration of her dermal armour.

As for inter-racial affairs, it's a common SR stereotype for the human
mover-and-shaker with the beautiful elf biff on his arm.

I would say that's a personal choice on the part of the players (who,
unless they give it serious thought, will probably go with their own
prefeerences) However, for an overall, I'd say that each race, in order
to consider themselves attractive will likely find their preferences
leaning towards their own kind (there could be interesting backlash from
this ... the human who wanted to be an elf then goblonized at puberty
into a Troll and finds troll women both appealling and repullsive at the
same time... disgusted with his own feelings ... could possibly be the
motivation behind the serial killer [or serial other things that
shouldn't normally be in RPGs]) ... this also leads to another question
... do each of the races have their own distinctive pheremones?

Yes. Take a look at the tailored phermones bioware... you only get half

Anyway, to bring this more on topic, I heard Dr. Joyce Brothers
describing why people generally go out with people of roughly the same
attractiveness saying that it had to do with comfort of self image
basically. This would mean a Troll would date Trolls because that's what
they feel like they have a chance at dating. Of course after Dr. Brothers
explained this Andrew Dice Clay said it was because they can't get any
better.

This brings to mind a comment Worf made in Star Trek Next Generation.
"Human women are just too fragile" or something to that affect.
I would think it would be similiar to interracial/interethnic of
today. There is some cross over, after all it's been at least 30-40
years of having trolls,elves, etc, but the majority stay within
their own "metatype". (I'm thinking elves may be the largest "cross
over"
since they resemble humans closely, and have a potential for high charisma).
This is all IMHO, and how it works in my game. YMMV.

Hey, I still lust after movie stars and supermodels, I just had to
adjust my expectations a bit. :) Its the money factor of course. :)
Works out perfectly for those runs of "Protect Starlet A, from crazed
fan B,C,D,E and her producer. :) (I even tied this back into shadowrun,
extra kudos). My brain is tired, please excuse the ramblings.

Actually, studies have been done that show that men and women prefer
certain shapes and body types, regardless of color or ethnicity.

Seems that women like men that look like they can provide for them and
their children; healthy and with some muscles (gotta be able to not only
hunt down that mastodon, he's gotta be able to protect the cave).
Culturally, they also look for signs of money.

Men, on the other hand, like women that look like they could just pop out
kids. In other words, a certain variation on the hourglass figure
(distinct, "child bearing" hips and breasts).

Healthiness, shown through tans, bared flesh, bright eyes and hair and so
on, is a trait desirable by both sexes.

Yes, we all have our own personal preferences and fetishes. But when it
all comes down to it, these traits are found desirable by nearly everyone
regardless of culture or race.

I'll get to my point momentarily...

It would likely be more of a cultural thing for the troll to think elves
are hot. And it wouldn't be that he would prefer his own kind, it would
likely have more to do with fertility.

In essence, the preferences of men and women I referred to above has to do
with fertility and the propagation of the species. Having babies and
raising them.

I suspect that newborn infants of different races are different sizes and
weights. I doubt a baby troll is born with his horns, but he's probably
clearly larger than a human or a dwarf baby for example.

If true (and I see no reason why it wouldn't be) then a dwarf isn't well
suited to give birth to a troll child. A troll mother is ideally suited to
give birth to a troll baby.

So subconsciously, trolls would be attracted to trolls, dwarves to dwarves
and so on, because mating within "race" is the ideal birthing situation for
the babies.

Obviously, cross-racial relationships can and do occur, because
(meta)humans are far more than just biology. But that doesn't change the
fact that each races' standards of beauty will be tuned towards having
healthy children, which means ideally mating within race.

I still lust after them...Christy Turlington...yummmmm...

And living in LA, well, along with the delusions of meeting those sort of
folks down in Hollyweird or something, there's just so many *other*
beautiful people around...this town'll twist ya, but at least you'll look
good!!
