O.k. Let's start by clearing up the terms here. A mattress pad is just
that - padded. It is usually quilted and is meant to increase comfort and
protect the mattress (it is a lot easier to was a mattress pad than a
mattress if you spill coffee in the morning). Over that you place a fited
sheet which has elastic at the corners. On top of that you place a flat
sheet, which is identical to the flat sheet except for the lack of
elastic.

Now, regarding your comment about having them pop off all the time. Try
the Land's End Catalog. Their "sheets-that-fit" have extra deep pockets to
keep the corners from popping off.

Howeverm they do cost a bit more, which brings us back to the origianl
point of "differently-sized" people having to pay more for some household
goods.

I don't want that mental image either, however, I would like to point out
the situation from the dwarfs point of view (I'm 5'0"). The *$$#@ shower
head is located where I can't reach it half the time and an't adjust
where it sprays. I have waist length hair and I don't always intend to
wash it, but have a very hard time showering without getting it wet. I
have to have my clothes hemmed a fair percentage of the time ($$), notice
dirt and flaws other people don't see (I pointed out to the painters
recently that they had done a poor job on the underside of my pantry
shelves - something they couldn't see), and can't buy things located on
the top shelf a grocery stores.

Opps! Taht turned itno a rant didn't it. Suffice to say, I do thiink
living expenses are a little higher for those people who are shorter or
taller than the norm. However, for characters close to the norm, the
problems are not significant enough to warrant a modifier to the lfestyle
cost - just the occasional frustrating incident (Well, Mr. Dwarf, you find
the hidden safe - it's located behind a picture six feet off the ground.
How do you proceed . . .) :)
