Does normal cash still exist in the future world of SR ? Or has all
monetary assets been transformed into data ?
I just can't imagine that you would pay with a credstick for every single
little thing you buy in a bar or small shop. And how about bribing people
do you give them a certified credstick or do ya just slip him a twenty ?

Just how does econonimcs work on a small scale in 2054 ?

Yes, cash does exist in 2054-55. All of the major corporations issue
corporate scrip for their own employees and their own shops, and most
governments still issued paper bills. The problems with using UCAS
dollars is that they are several; first off, they aren't as stable and so
you often don't get a good exchange rate against the standard currency
(nuyen). Also due to the above fact, many stores and shops, while
accepting cash, would much prefer nuyen in the forms of credsticks,
certified or otherwise.

In general, most people would probably not want corp scrip, and depending
on their own MO's and SOP, they might not want government bills either.
I always stick on the safe side with my characters and just use certified
credsticks. But then again,, my characters are very good tippers...

I seem to remember in one of the novels ( and module too) someone using
paper money type nuyen. I also seem to remember this discussion before.
Oh well, just my opinion.

I know corps print their own own money, but as to how widley accepted it
is.... I don't know. I would imagine that individual governments also
print money, but again, how widely accepted is it? I don't know...

In one of the sourcebooks (Corp Shadowfiles, maybe?), a runner points out the
uses of paper money-for bribes and other untraceable stuff. (If you were a
sec-guard asking for a bribe, would you take a credit card? *grin*) If nothing
else,m this confirms that cash does still exist, which I think was the original
question.

As some people have already said, there are a couple forms of paper money
availiable in Shadowrun; paper Nuyen, and corporate money.

In my campaigns, paper Nuyen is not used a lot in Seattle, but is popular in
some other areas of the world where they dont have systems for using
electronic money. You can use paper Nuyen on the street, but usually it will
only be accepted by people who do lots of "business" outside of Seattle.

Then there is corporate money. This stuff is what the corps pay a lot of
their wage slaves with. It is usable at its full value only at businesses
that are owned by the issuing corp. Other places in Seattle will accept corp
money, but will usually have different price scales. For example, something
that costs 10 Nuyen might cost 12 Ares dollars, 15 Renraku dollars, etc.
Corp money is usually not accepted at large, upscale businesses, and it
cannot be used for certain legal transactions (for example, a legitimate gun
shop will only accept Nuyen from a SIN stick, as law requires a record of
where the money came from). But many bars, restauraunts, etc will take it, as
will some "less reputable" businesses. Some fixers might not want it, as it
is a pain for them to convert. Others might accept it, as it is untraceable.

It comes down to being a GM call as to useage of paper money. I kind of like
using it, especially when the players are dealing with gangers, or are doing
business in some dinky little shop, as it adds some variety and flavor to
the game.

And you run into trouble if you are 'dropped' in middle of some
forign(sp?) place outside the UCAS that works in something other than
nuyen. Sure, they still take it, but the exchange rate and trouble just
aren't worth it. If you know you are going to be going somewhere
outside the UCAS, get it switched before you go.
