I write:
This may come as a shock to you, but just because someone is a
physical science major, doesn't mean their senses are dulled and their
minds are closed. My [graduate] education never included anything
about magic, or the lack thereof. In fact, if you get right down to it, any in
depth physical theory becomes a question of (meta)physics. I don't
know what they teach where you come from.....

Science is an ATTEMPT to codify what people see occurring around
them. It is not a religion, except for a few. If the threads concerning
magick in this list aren't the exact same thing, I guess I must have been
missing something.

By the time the people become Awakened, it will be too late. The only
good outcome is that the Mana may return. Otherwise, we are headed
for a Gibson-esque future. The current level of practicing magic users
(for lack of a better, generic phrase) is hardly enough to stop the trends
displayed by Corps, the Gov't(ours included), and the people en masse.
Things are getting darker chummers. Pray for the magic.

With attitudes like this, things are getting darker indeed. Please keep your prophecies
off of the list.

Can we stop this a while ago? I think JD also pointed it out, this is
getting to be a "magic(k) is real/can never be" thread, and we all know
where that'll lead. Next we know people will be trying to convert others to
various religions, right here on this list...

Real Programmers never work 9 to 5. If any real programmers
are around at 9 am, it's because they were up all night.

Wahoo!

Hail Eris! The Happy Fun Ball Brigade sect of the Church of Discordia is
now accepting memberships.

Anyway, I've been reading up on, of all things, Japanese folk religion,
which includes shamanism, BTW (just to keep it moderately SR relevant).
Interesting stuff. If anyone's interested, I suggest ``Folk Religion in
Japan'' by Ichiro Hori, The University of Chicago Press, ISBN 0-226-35334-6
