That's okay, neither do I...

Ah yes, that was it. I am taking Mike B. to see it today (as part of a thank
you/congrats on getting his job), but I had an *opinion* question to ask for
those of you who have seen the movie and/or those of you who have read
Renraku Arcology: Shutdown.

Is the concept that has occurrred to Renraku almost like a "Prequel" to
"the
Matrix?" Would that not be part of the power consideration that Deus (RA:S)
has over his people?

For those of you whom have seen the movie, what do you think of that "Power
Supply" concept? Does it not give the idea behind "the dream rooms" a new
twist of sorts? How about the consideration behind cyberware and where it
gets' it's power from?

I am not sure, starting next week, we beginning the scalpeling of the RA:S
story from our game world. We've decided it simply does NOT fit with the
rest of the SR Universe at this time and reference (shrug). Just the idea of
taking "Paranoia" (the game) and making it serious breaks some gaming ethic
we've got....

inspiring, if just a tad bit terrifying, moment in the whole movie)

I haven't read or played or own RA:S, although I get the general idea behind it.
I would think that would be a "yes" to your question. Heck, any movie about A.I.
gone wrong could be a prequel. Actually, when Morpheus was describing to Neo what
happened to the world, I was actually thinking more along the lines of the
Terminator history, with SkyNet and all.

That was some pretty interesting stuff. It actually reminded me of the spaceship
in the X-Files movie where all of the aliens are being birthed.

I don't know about -inspiring- ;), but it was pretty scary. Especially all those
spider robots harvesting babies. *shiver*

What did you think of the movie overall? I actually expected some kind of war to
be fought in the Matrix, but it was really about one man's journey of discovery,
and all the really cool stuff didn't start happening till the end! Well, maybe a
climax -is- a good thing. :)

That movie really gives ya something to think about, though, and Shadowrun-wise,
we could probably draw parallels for a WHILE!

I just caught the movie today, and let me tell you -- wow! I was pretty
damned impressed. That's rare in movie-world. I mean, the special effects
were top notch, the acting was above par, and the plot was well developed
and executed. The only glitch I caught was during the helicopter scene.
There were 2 shots of the helicopter in which you could easily make out a
stunt person standing in the open door of the helicopter. Oops. Outside
of that small detail, everything was excellent. I haven't seen a movie
that awe inspiring in years. And the Shadowrun parallels were definitely
there. The campaign ideas that movie has and will continue to inspire are
numerous. ;)

Oh yeah....I'm sure my soon-to-be-players will attest to that. ;)
