Hi everybody!

There are a few things I'd like to know about this splendid list...
maybe somebody could answer the following questions...

How long does this list exist?

How many subscribers did it have then?

Are there any of them still online?

Who is the 'oldest' listmember?

how long does the average listmember stay subscribed?

Why are some listmembers subscribed twice, with different adresses?

Have there been persons kicked of the list for whatever reasons up to
now?

thanks

|How long does this list exist?

Do you mean "how long has the list existed"?
A few years. GURTH!.

|How many subscribers did it have then?

Pass.

|Are there any of them still online?

Yes, but not on the list very often, if ever.
Rob Hayden was the founder of the list, and JD faulk was our fearless leader
until last year.

|Who is the 'oldest' listmember?

I don't know. I'm 30..... :)
I think Gurth is the longest running listmember still a regular on the list.

|how long does the average listmember stay subscribed?

Is there an average? I've been on for nearly 2 years.

|Why are some listmembers subscribed twice, with different adresses?

Failsafe for bad ISP connections? I don't know.

|Have there been persons kicked of the list for whatever reasons up to
|now?

Yes. Several.

Fro or one the old-timers (Granite, for instance)

>How long does this list exist?

I think it's been around at least three years, because I can remember
someone saying that they had been on the list that long.

>How many subscribers did it have then?

Dunno. I'm guessing not as many as it does now:)

>Are there any of them still online?

Actually, one of them just re-subbed recently (though I don't know if
he's still here), the old list admin also sent something to the list a
while back, though he's not currently a listmember. At least a few
'old-timers' never un-subbed.

>Who is the 'oldest' listmember?

<shrug> About all I know is that it's not me:) Granite, maybe.

>how long does the average listmember stay subscribed?

Again, i don't know. In the past eight or nine months, I've seen some
people come and go in a period of weeks, others have been here
continuously for three years or so.

>Why are some listmembers subscribed twice, with different adresses?

Because some of us have more than one address (home and work, for
instance). In my case, it was so I could get message logs over e-mail if
I needed them.

>Have there been persons kicked of the list for whatever reasons up to

Yeah, one guy got himself kicked off just a few months ago for being an
a$$hole.

Since 1993.. first on hearn.surfnic.nl, then on itribe.net. May have even
been since 1992..

>How many subscribers did it have then?

Looking at old logs, under 100 at a time..

>Are there any of them still online?

Paolo Marcunni has been on the list for a long time, as has Gurth, Mark
Imbracio (Fearless Leader), and some more..too many too list.

>Who is the 'oldest' listmember?

As in longest on? Not sure.. probably Mark Imbracio.. as for oldest age,
Pete Simms :) (I have no idea if this is true..just like picking on him:)

>how long does the average listmember stay subscribed?

No idea.. some seem to go in a matter of weeks. I would say about 6 months
or so, if I had to choose, but its so variable..

>Why are some listmembers subscribed twice, with different adresses?

I'm subscribed once from my home account, and once from a shell (But its
set to nomail.)
Some people are subscribed from both work and home, or one is for normal
mail, the other for digests.

>Have there been persons kicked of the list for whatever reasons up to
>now?

Yes.. most are 'removed' for bouncing mail, which isn't a punitive measure,
its to prevent the list from breaking. I've removed 2 people for punitive
measures in the entire 14 months or so I've been on the list.

Bull exhibits the strange phenomenon that although he's a relative
newcomer (though after 10 months I'd say he's a regular), he made it
appear like he'd been here for years already. Probably due to his knack
for OT posts :)

That, BTW, may be a good example of what happens when you use a language
chip: you say something in a way that's normal in your own language, and
it gets interpreted wrong by the listener. "How long does this list
exist?" is more or less how you ask how long something has existed in
German (or Dutch, for that matter; an even better example would be
asking "How long exists this list?"), but in English you have to use "has
existed" instead.

> >Are there any of them still online?

Well yeah, I'm an original. Oh, you mean original listmember? :) No way,
not by far.

Not sure about when she first joined, but I do remember her posting under
her real name.

Looks like I'm popular :)

Now you mention it, it does look like Rob and Doom kicked more people off
than Mark and Fro (I can't get myself to call him Adam :) did, but then
they were in charge for a longer period of time. Back then, though, Bull
would have been told to stay on-topic much sooner than he was now. The
24-hour rule from the FAQ wasn't enforced too rigidly, just like now, but
it was enforced from time to time.
Still, I can't recall anyone being kicked off for too much off-topic
posting. Most of the victims were simply too offensive to the rest of the
list.

Or me. I'm 35. But, from Avenger's posting style, he can be older... :)

BTW, I have a pack of diskettes with ALL the logs from 1992. Makes for nice
reading, sometimes....

Let me try my psychic powers agian...... [AAAmmmmmm].... I don't know.

Yes?

>Who is the 'oldest' listmember?

Now that may be none of your business... I mean some of the more
"experienced" players may be sensitive to that line of questioning.
(actually when I took a little survey this past september/october, the
ages ranged from around 15 to more than twice that... I might be able to
answer that question, but it would require that I rummage through a box
of disks to see if I still have the survey results....)

>how long does the average listmember stay subscribed?
Some for quite a while, others about as long as it takes them to belt out
some assinine comment, or randomly (and groundlessly) assualt whole
groups of listmemebers.

>Why are some listmembers subscribed twice, with different adresses?
Easy! I'm (or was) subscribed twice cause I spend half of each day at
different computers separated by large distances, and it's more
convienient to just have it sent to both e-mail addresses than to mess
around with telnetting or ftping and other stuff. (case point: my home
address vs. my school address. When I'm at school, and in the computer
lab all day it's easier to just read it there, and when I come home in
the evening it's more convienient to just get my local mail than to log
onto the university system and then check it.)

>Have there been persons kicked of the list for whatever reasons up to

Yes. One or two that I can remember.... a fairly recently certain person
saw fit to start assualting and insulting members for no real reason at
all, and after several warnings got the boot.

Readable enough that everyone knew what you meant, and that's all that
counts (although I will say that I wonder why a lot of Americans make so
many basic mistakes in spelling their own language...).

No, that's not what I meant. I meant that a number of other people have
been kicked off over the years, so if it would haoppen to you, you
wouldn't be the first. Anyway you've not been offensive in any way IMHO.

Is Gweedo still here, BTW? I haven't seen him in a few weeks... Anyways,
you've gotten a lot better since then, so please take no offense at
anything I say (And I still don;t like Ripclaw, so...:))

Anyways, Gweedo and his Buddy Ripclaw joined the list together. Both
posted a bunch of stuff, badly formatted (Not SNIPPING sigs and the like),
and some of there stuff made no sense. gweedo was worse about it, and Fro
Kicked him with a warning, but let him Rejoin. He came back on and
apologized (Sort of... he still managed to get into it with Dvixen, but
that's another story).

Ripclaw, on the other hand, decided to make an issue out of it. He
basically called Dvixen and Fo idiots for giving his buddy problems and
kicking him, and in general made an ass of himself. When everyone came to
Dvix and Fro's defense, he sent a 6 line post telling everyone to F off,
called everyone assholes, and basically proved once again why (in general)
people from AOL, Compuserv, and Juno are annoying little twinks (Liek I
said, that's in general. We have some well behaved and intelligent memebsr
of teh Inetrnet community who are stuck with these crappy servers/systems).

Well... that did little for his popularity, and After I sent a very vocal,
long winded, and rather eloquent flame at him, as well as a few others
doing the same, Fro Banned him. And everyone rejoiced...

But, enough said...:]

| Readable enough that everyone knew what you meant, and that's all that
| counts (although I will say that I wonder why a lot of Americans make so
| many basic mistakes in spelling their own language...).

Probably because our language makes no fraggin sense alot of the
time...english, or American as some of our friends accross the ocean here
would call it :), is full of contradictions and hipocracy...just like some
Americans unfortunately. ;-)

|
| No, that's not what I meant. I meant that a number of other people have
| been kicked off over the years, so if it would haoppen to you, you
| wouldn't be the first. Anyway you've not been offensive in any way IMHO.

I'm pretty sure you're safe as well.
