My guess is that the intent was to make the setting familiar, yet off just a
bit, to demonstrate the small imperfections in the computer's representation
of the virtual world that they created. Or very likely, they just didn't go
that deeply into it. I'm going to guess somewhere in betweeen.

The actual quote is "Buckle your seatbelt Dorothy cause Kansas is going
bye bye" and it is probably more a reference to the changes in neo's
world that are about to happen rather than a mention of where they are.

This is probably why I didn't notice it. I heard the Oz reference, but
didn't associate it with the city.

Quick geography lesson:

Kansas City is primarily in the state of Missouri, but there is also a
Kansas City, Kansas that is significantly smaller. (Much the same way that
Texarkana straddles the Texas and Arkansas borders. I don't know about
_there_, but here the two cities are very seperate and rarely co-operate).

Yes it is anal of me to mention it, or be annoyed when people (like bands)
don't know where the hell they are.

Just to make sure I think that you are agreeing. Their are ALOT of puns
to alice in wonderland and also to Wizard of ozz.. now that I think about
it the one AI guy that was in charge... agent smith.. reminded me of the
Mad Hatter for the origional movie.. but I could be a silly little mouse.
Who knows.
