I've been a bit out of the loop on Shadowrun for a while as I have had to take a vacation
( it was somewhat needed after running the game for three and a half years for my group)
however I have to agree with the guy who said its almost like losing a friend. I've been
playing the game since it first came back when I was stationed at Ft. Benning and had
nothing to do when I was low on cash. The game was so appealing to me that when I did
have money to go clubbing, I turned it down quite a few times to play Shadowrun instead.
I have to ask if anybody knows if the rumor posted is true about FASA competing with GW on
the minis business of things. If the answer is yes, then let's be honest by saying that
was a financially stupid thing to do. Now don't get the idea I'm defending GW as I would
sooner go get a root canal than buy another product from GW, but they unfortuantely have a
strong customer back up and its a very steep hill to climb to compete with them. However,
theres a great possibility that if a company buys FASA that SR could continue. After all,
we are talking about a game that is almost a household word as D&D. People who have
played SR or Battletech may say they used to play, but also say they enjoyed it. Ask the
same person who used to play GW games and there won't be a smile across their face. So, I
apologize for the digressing, but after reading some of your postings this was just
something I had to say. And to the individual who asked if this might be a conspiracy:
well, all I can tell you is that when a company is making a tidy profit and has the rights
to a couple popular games it would be financial suicide to pull a stunt like that and
expect people to feel the same way about your company. If you actually beleive this is a
conspiracy to gain a profit, then you can beleive Tupac, Elvis and aliens are behind it.

Wether they intended it or not... I think any miniatures based game is
considred by everybody to "be in competition with GW"... not by any intent,
but simply because GW pretty much dominates that aspect of the market.

Overall though... I don't see why a gaming company would come along and buy
a product line just to let it die... so you'd have to assume Wizkids intends
to do something with the Shadowrun and Battletech lines...

But, even if they did... there is enough source material produced, and
enough net activity in the development of netbooks and such, that the game
will still live on for years to come... I can say for myself that even if
Shadowrun is dead because of this, 5 years down the road it'll still be the
system I am playing... I have enough of my own and Fasa produced stuff to
ensure that I won't run out of ideas.
