Subject: The pure cybernetic interface question

The original question:
12) Why would anyone use anything other than a pure cybernetic interface into
the Matrix? You get the extra initiative die and no apparent drawbacks?

The answers:

Someone gimme a hand here: I've forgotten. Something along the lines of pure
cyber control making you more open to damage from attack...
------------
12) A person uses a deck so that any damage done to them by gray IC is taken
by the deck, and the worst that could happen is having your deck crash and
getting dumped from the Matrix. If you go in "naked" then damage from gray
IC is taken by the decker himself, and he could die. To most Shadowrunners
this is a bad thing.
------------
12) Going "naked" into the matrix is quite different from using a cyberdeck.
Your MPCP is equal to Willpower. All your programs must be written on
the fly. Any damage that would normally damage your matrix persona now
damages you personally. You require a program carrier. Your I/O speed is
equal to your intelligence. You must download to internal memory or with
slight modification (up to your GM) to a chip in a chipjack. Your Bod is
also equal to your willpower.
However, (good
stuff) you get an extra +D6 to your initiative, you can enter through
slave ports (decks can't), Your wired reflexes or rigger gear act as
response increase, you do get normal programs for Sensors, Masking, and
Evasion (remember, max rating = 75% MPCP round down).
-Accomplished Matrix Streaker (or my inflated matrix ego would like to
think so)
-------------
My answer:

As i interpret the rules as stated in SR II, pure cybernetic interface is
not the same as running naked.
As i see it, pure cybernetic interface is a cyberdeck without a keyboard.

On page 162 in the SR II rulebook:
"Some deckers still use some form of keyboard assistance, but
many prefer running with a pure cybernetic hook-up"

On page 178 in the SR II rulebook:
" Deckers who are running on pure cybernetic command receive
an additional die for initiative.
Deckers running on a combination of cybernetic command with
keyboard assistance determine Initiative normaly.
Deckers running a cyberdeck with _only_ keyboard commands
halve their Reaction Rating, receive no Reaction bonus from response
increase, but do get to roll the additional response intrease Initiative
die, in addition to their standard 1D6."

And as I see this there is nothing that prevents you from allways run
pure cybernetic. I will anyway :-).

I see I misunderstood question #12....

My big, long, wordy, definition was for running naked through the matrix
with a program carrier. No deck at all. Unfortunately, I don't see ANY
stats for the program carrier in SRII whatsoever. I would really enjoy
someone correcting me on this one because I reeeeeaaaaally enjoy streakin'
the matrix.
