Almost. You would still only be able to use the rating 10 chip at a rating
of 9, because the wires' rating is only that high. It might be able to
handle up to twice its level in chip ratings, but it doesn't allow you to
use chips of higher ratings than the wires' level. What it *is* useful for
is using two rating 9 chips at the same time.

Just out of curiostity...why? All it says in Shadowtech is "The total ratings
of all the skillsofts in use at any one time may not exceed the Total Ratings
(which is 2x the level for SPlus) capability of the system." According to
that I should be able to use alevel 18 skillsoft in a level 9 SkillwirePlus.
Right? (And actually you can't use a rating 10 chip at level 9 or anything
other than level 10. It says so on p.47 of ST.)

I have to agree with DarkAngel on this one. It's been pretty hotly debated
here before and this was the generally approved outcome.

You're right, but I still find it a bit strange... Maybe because I've
played it different for years :)
The one thing that doesn't make sense is not being able to use chips at a
lower rating than what they're encoded at. What happens if you put a level
10 chip into a level 3 system? You get no skill at all? I'd think maybe a
TN modifier would be more appropriate, like +1 per rating point over the
maximum allowed for the wires?
