I'm trying to work out a run, and one major piece I'm doing has a lot to
do with a dude driving a schoolbus.

Anybody know how much gas and how fast a schoolbus can go?

No idea about the fuel consumption, but I'm guessing it's
fairly bad. Hmmm..I'm guessing the top speed can't be
more then 65 mph, unless your going down hill with somebody
pushing. But I haven't ridden in a school bus in a loooooong
time, so take this with a grain of salt.

The bus I ride must be a newer model.. looking at the speedometer last year, I saw it
maxed
out at 100. I would guess it does around 6 to 10 miles to the gallon, which equals out to
be
around 10 to 16 kilometers to every 4 liters.. (2.5 to 4 kpL). I hope this helps at least
a little;
and school buses nowdays have a max capacity of 80-something passengers.

Auto manufacturers have a one-size fits all attitude with speedometers.
just because the speedometer goes to 100 mph, doesn't mean that the bus
does. likewise, just because a speedometer only goes to 100 doesn't mean
that's the vehicle's top speed [just the fastest you're expected to make it
go].

100 miles per hour! Woah I'm old, but not that old. (I hope).
You must have had a cool bus driver as well, most of mine
wouldn't have driven that fast, even if the bus could take it.
Which brings up an interesting idea. Has anybody ever
done something similiar to the movie "Speed" in
Shadowrun? I'm thinking with the Rigger 2 rules, it might
be possible these days.

Well, I had to drive a '97 mid-sized diesal truck 800 miles this
summer. I'd say it's comparable to a school bus (big, square, and
yellow). The truck had great pick up and good power, but I rarely got
it over 85 miles an hour (75 mph was my average with the gas pedal to
the floor). I'd guess the gas mileage was around 8mpg.

I just asked a guy I work with who I thought might know someone that drives
one (he is one of your hippy looking guys that loves VW Buses) and he said
this:

10 miles to the gallon (may vary depending on if you are going up and down
hills alot)
65 MPH for top speed. (these are for empty buses too)

I asked how much gas one of them things could hold and he said it
depends...and then went on about how it depends on if they have propane or
not and yada yada but I figured you wanted an unmodified bus.

I found this site for you.. http://www.schoolbusfleet.com/ ... which might
have more info for you to use.

Busses also are desinged to run a long time on a tank of gas. I would say
somewhere in the 500-1000 L range for the tank.

Good point... Mom used to have an old Corsica that had a top listed speed of 80 on the
speedometer, but we had it goin at least 100... thats when the Oil light came on *grin*

I college I drove some old buses. the 'airporter' buses generally held
(legally) up to 28 passengers, got approx. 12 miles/gallon, and it had 40
gallons tanks. the 'school bus' we had was this double-clutch 4 speed
beast. if you wanted to risk serious engine damage, you exceeded 55 mph.
65 mph was certain death. top reasonable speed was 50 mph. none of the
buses had any guts. the airporters weren't as bad, but even an old station
wagon (or VW bus) could usually beat a school bus across the intersection.

Bear in mind that many buses (especially school buses) have governors on
the engines or other design "features" which restrict their max speed.
Remove the right bits, or replace the right parts, and you can probably get
a bus that'll go 80+ mph without a problem. I wouldn't want to try
maneuvering a school bus at those speeds, VCR or no, but that's a different
problem... ;)

Then better not take the cheap Chiba-VCR-Clone, buy the original!
You will have no problems with our new "Sense Enhance 4 U" equipement while
driving big Vans or Buses! A Hairneedle turn with that old Greydog bus? A fast
and furious run from the SINless in your neighborhood after some
drive-by-shooting? Even a High speed / High risc chase through the district
known as Hells Kitchen is no problem for our new VCR No. 5!
Be sure to get one as fast as your old cheap VCR can !

OK. Just one suggestion. Make the schoolbus rather hard to steer. Perhaps a
handling of 5/6 should make it. Ah, wait a moment...here are some sugested stats
that IMO would work for a Diesel:
Handling 4/10
Speed 60 (90 top)
Accel 3
Body 5
Armor 0
Fuel Diesel; 285
Ecconomy 1l=2km
Load I havent figured it out yet, insert what you think apropriate.
CF Same here
Seating 2 Front 30 Benchseats back (This would give spacing to aprox.
50 to 80 people, depending on exact design of seating)

I'll made them on the fly, so pleas be gentle while picking on it ;o)
BTW, I used the medium transport template to start with. Cost would be around
70.000 Y to 80.000 Y.
Hope it helped.
