Greetings.
I am new to the group and have a few questions I hope some one can
answer. First does any one know the current political standing on the
world (i.e. who is mad at who in the political world, and not the bottom
line) also who has what special forces orginizations? For example does
Korea still have Rock soldiers, is the U.S.S.R. still in exsitance and do
they still have the spitnaz? If not what happend to them? I am trying to
set up a special forces type campaighn (showing the government is stronger
than people think).
Also what are horrors. They where obviosly talked about earlier, and
seem to be some bad fraggers. Thank you for your time

Definatly worth a look ~especially~ if you are looking to run a spec ops
game. Also several primers in small unit tactics. Very useful for when
character have the skill and the players are clueless as to these sorts of
things.

The horrors. What is this horror week? The horrors are big nasty
Cthuloid beasties that are just downright evil. Think the entire Cthulu
mythos, there are big Hastur/Cthulu types and little crappy (?)
Byakee/Zombie types. Major league baddies. They are making an effort to
return to the world when the mana level gets high enough.
THe horror-centric on the list can go into more detail, I don't really
follow these things, I make up my own evil stuff ;). The horrors are an
Earthdawn thing so they tend to bring up discussion of immortal elves,
dragons and such. One big headache if you ask me.

The CAS hates the NAN, The NAN hates UCAS, UCAS tries to get on with various
nations at various times but relations always seem tense, Japan has grown in
power, Europe has fallen to pieces and _everyone_ hates Atzlan.

They will come from a metaplane to earth at the height of the mana cycle
(about 4030 something, Harlequin recons mankind will have created
magical/cybernetic weapons sufficient to fight them by then). They like
eating things; some just feed on living things, others feed on emotions (and
do things that would put Francis Bacon off his lunch in order to get them).
They are basicly evil on a stick.

The Great Ghost Dance created a mana spike which some of them got a cross
in. Some of the low powered ones can survive 2060's mana level. They would
have got to earth sooner but a team of three Shadowrunners by the names of
Bypass, Amber and Silvermane along with an Immortal Elf called Harlequin
found a woman called Thayla on the metaplanes whose voice was enough to keep
them from getting to Earth. :)>

Unless you really like Cold War settings (or unless I'm really
mistaken), the USSR does not exist in Shadowrun. It has not existed in
the real world for quite some time now, too. :).

Still, I'd say every country has special forces of some kind or
other, as well as every corp above a certain level. In the way the corps
are portrayed in the setting, I'd tend to say no government is really
strong, nor does the concept of a "developed country" really apply
anymore. Neither to the UCAS, nor to any other country in the world. But
that's my opinion.
