But any successes are also added on to your Intelligence check, IIRC. So
if you roll 3 successes for your Intelligence check, and 4 for your Aura
Reading, don't you get 5 successes? It's not like you're totally getting
gypped here. It would be like (to use the Etiquette/Charisma example)
you roll Charisma and any successes Etiquette gave you being stacked on
top of those Charisma successes. Plus doesn't Aura Reading also lower
the Intelligence TN? It's been way too long since I've played SR or even
looked at my books...

That's right - but there's no parity between cost and
usage here. THAT'S what I don't like.

Precisely. But that's not how it works, is it? You
only roll Etiquette skill, and each success counts as
one success, while Aura Reading functions almost
exclusively as a complementary skill. Yet you still
pay the same karma for them, while other skills which
function mostly as complementary skills (knowledge
skills) cost less.
