Thor as a viable weapon system is not really anywhere to be found in SR. It
gets a brief mention in _House of the Sun_.

Where I have seen it was in FASA's excellent Renegade Legion universe, but
there they've had about 40 centuries of time to play with it. They also
have grav tanks, and make planetary landings by kicking the tanks out at 90
km above the planet's surface and let them fall until their drives "bite
gravity" around 15 km above sea level on a terran-grav world.

Great wargames.

Ummm, this is a novel universe, not a game universe, right? I mean, novels
are great and all, but this sounds like a kickin' setting, and a decent
alternative to Battletech for a far-future setting. Battletech never tickled
me the way that SR does, for all it's good backstory.

Well, it *IS* a game universe. I know of the following sets...
Interceptor (Fighter combat.. I like the Spiculum.).
Leviathan (Capital ship combat.. anyone want a Shiva Battleship?)
Centurion (Ground combat)
Prefect (Planetary invastion campaign/strategy game. *VERY*
interesting/novel ideas.. could be played
in the background to give players realistic
combat missions, incidentally.).

I don't have Centurion, though. (Nor the character creation set,
whose name I do not remember).

Incidentally, capital ships are equipped with so-called 'spinal
mounts'.. railguns that run the entire length of the ship (up to a
few kilometers). Now those would make interesting 'thor' weapons.
Not too likely in the SR universe, though....

And yes, I like the TOG better than the wimpy commonwealth.

GM: Ok. The shot bounces.
Player: Uh.. why?
GM: Safety distance, 5 meters. You're 4 M off.
Player: Oh, ok, I take a step back and fire again.
GM: Mhm. That's cool.
Other players: NOOOOOOO!!!!

Game universe, unfortunately long out of print. Crunchy Frog Enterprises
had a license for a while, but gave it up becuase no-one was buying. I
*much* prefer it to BT.

Games are: RL: Interceptor (fighters), RL: Centurion (Tanks, and in a
second edition (which I recommend over the first)), RL: Leviathan (Capital
ships), RL: Prefect (planetary invasion (I've never played it)), and RL:
Legionnaire (the RPG)

There are some novels for it as well; they're good for getting a feel for
the universe.
