Yo chummers,
I request some advice, if I may be so bold.
I have Grim2, 1993 2nd printing and Bug City 1994. Those of you that have
them will have noticed the differences in the stats for the various
spirits. I've only just aquired Bug City and I'm in the process of reading
it, but would I be correct in saying the BC stats surpass the G2 stats?

Mykul,

As far as I can tell Bug City contains the most current rules for using
"Bugs" in your SR games. the first supplement to have bugs was Universal
Brotherhood....not a fun module for the players about the same time Queen
Euphoria also came out. I was playing SR at that time and we had the
....honor...i guess of playing them back to back. We lost 2 out of 9 players
during the final scene of Queen Euphoria. That scene is also the longest
combat I have seen. Most players actually ran through multiple clips and had
to reload or go hand to hand with ant flesh form and true form spirits. the
Awakenings sourcebook contains some Bug-specific spells in its Grimoire and
has some other way nifty neeto spells in it.

Happy Motoring

I believe it is stated in Bug City that they have included different stats
so that players won't be able to come out and say "this bug has THESE
stats!" Which means they'll have to fight something that they aren't
entirely sure how to deal with. IM(NS)HO its one of the best ideas that
FASA ever had.

That's what we're here for (partly, anyway :)

The way I always look on this, is that the rules in any book overrule
similar rules in older books. So the stats in Bug City would be the ones
to use, not those in the Grimoire. Although in this particular case I
myself tend to use a mixture of both, cooking up some sort of crossbreed
between the two that takes the worst parts (for the players) and applies
them all :)

That's not so strange if you know the way the book directs the GM to run
that particular combat scene... Pile on until the PCs almost lose it all,
then let the hive run out of spirits :)

/**** SLIGHT SPOILER ****/
Actually, every encounter with Insect Spirits has different rules. The
stated reason (stated in Bug City) is that as the overall power of the
spirits wax and wane (represented by their Magical Threat), their powers
increase and decrease. Hence, the Share Willpower rule is not present in
"Missing Blood" or "Queen Euphoria", is at it's peak in "Double
Exposure", and is slightly weaker in Bug City.

Actually on page 135 of Bug City it states the reason for the stat
differences, "mainly to keep players and characters unsure of what they
face."
